I’ll continue to keep my carry piece on my person while traveling thru or stopping in reciprocal states while traveling between homes in states that recognize the Florida permit. Those that don’t it’s locked with others in cases according to the 1986 law. Been doing 16 years. Course in those 16 years I’ve never been pulled over but once. Speed trap in Northern Florida. Trooper didn’t even ask.
Was that by chance in Waldo, Starke or Lawtey on US301? 2 of those 3 still are; Waldo had their entire department disbanded and half went to jail for ticket quotas. I run radar for a reason..........as to the cop never asking, none seem to do that here or in GA; neither state has a duty to inform either.

Yep 301. Lawtey. Big honking billboard said Speed Trap Ahead. 4 lane with speed limit dropping by 10 mph from 65 to 25 every few hundred yards. Left lane passing an 18 wheeler and missed the 45 to 25.
$180 bucks and online drivers school. Lady cop very cordial inquired about the family and wished me a nice day.:(

AAA payed for that billboard for ages.................one of the worst, so folks coming to Florida need to watch for those towns.

I’m not following. Are you saying one is in violation of a federal law by traveling across state lines carrying a concealed weapon between reciprocal states.
???
No one is talking about "reciprocal" States?
If is a reciprocal State there is no issue. The OP is traveling through NON reciprocal States
I drive from Fl through GA, TN NC etc no issue.

Good old dismal seepage WALDO!

Town of 900 or less people .

They finally got gigged!

, Your IL permit is not honored here, we just want your tourist money and COVID:)
There is also no duty to inform unless asked.

That’s a bit harsh. The buss word is reciprocal. Illinois doesn’t recognize Florida’s either.

No it's not harsh, you said

No it is not a violation of Federal Law when you travel across State Lines into a reciprocal State.

I took a road trip from KY (home state) thru several western states a couple of years ago. I had to stop at the last IN exit on I-64 to remove my CCW, unload it and lock it in my trunk, then pull over at the first MO exit to retrieve and load it. I was then able to complete the entire three week trip without ever removing it from the holster again until I passed back thru IL.

Chicago ruins everything...

I'm traveling from Washington to Arizona in a couple of months. Going through Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. I'll have a subgun in my suitcase and a P365 on my person at all times. Assuming, of course, that there won't be changes in gun laws between now and then. I'm assuming there will be. I'll decide then what is more important; Liberty and self-defense, or fear of my government.

In Florida, a firearm can be carried in a vehicle in any compartment or container that requires a lid or cover be opened or removed to gain access. The law also itemizes a snapped holster as meeting the requirement. A closed pizza box on an unoccupied passenger seat would even meet the standard.

However, the container holding the firearm can not be on one's person without a valid carry license or permit honored by the State.

A long gun may be stored and transported in any location, visible or otherwise, in a vehicle, provided it is not carried on one's person, or so close to one's person as to be as readily-available as if it were on the person; this would violate the State's ban on open-carry (or concealed carry if the firearm is not visible to the ordinary sight of another person.)

Unlicensed carry of a firearm (openly or concealed) is permitted in the following circumstances:

While engaged in, or traveling directly to or from, a lawful hunting, fishing, camping, or shooting activity.

While at one's home or place of business.

Florida does not differentiate between "loaded" or "unloaded" firearms in these sections of the statutes. Any firearm in the contexts of this post may be loaded or unloaded.

Keep in mind that Federal law still prohibits driving through a school zone with a firearm, or otherwise being in a school zone with a firearm, without a carry license or permit issued by the state in which the school zone is located. This is a law that is practically impossible to follow while traveling with a firearm, but I know of no prosecutions of violators who did not otherwise break other laws that drew attention to themselves.

Excellent recap, Medwheeler!

Hello,
I'm planning to travel by car in Florida from Illinois.
I have IL conceal care licence. I was researching a lot of site to understand my option to travel with the guns. Very confusing and controversial notes. Some site claims it is allowed to do so, some has not allowed. I was looking on reciprocity maps and result is different as well. YouTube videos same controversy.
Who can point to reliable information. Would be very appreciative.
what kind of pull do you have to get a CWP in Illinois? Respect! Or is the rest of the state NOT as bad as chitcago?
