I really want a single stack 9mm, as skinny as possible and light weight but NOT compact. At least 4" barrel. Is there such a thing? Search just turns up full size double stack or subcompact single stack.

The Taurus G3 feels and grips like a single stack. A Glock 48 with 15 rounds aftermarket magazines would be nice as well.

S&W model 639, not a lightweight.
S&W did make light slim pistols, check the sources in your area for S&W3904 alloy frame and steel slide, barrel &c.

Kimber Pro Carry II:
  • Product #: 3200333
  • UPC: 669278323336
  • Steel slide alloy frame
  • Mine...great fit and finish and great looks and POA=POI!

Springfield XDs has a four inch version with extended mag it is less compact. Have your cake and eat it too. I own a 3.3 inch 45 ACP and love that gun. They are less than an inch thick. Good sights out of the box, Talon grip tape is a good touch.

I have a lightweight 1911 Commander, a Glock 48 and a Sig P239SAS. Of those 3, I shoot the 1911 best. YMMV. But, there are some great choices out there.

If I had to choose 1 to carry, it'd probably be the Glock. The Sig isn't exactly light. An early alloy S&W 39 would be a good choice if you want light SA/DA.

I used to carry a Walther PPS M2 (which replaced my Shield .40) which was nice, but I've since changed to a Glock 48 and never looked back, same size as my PPS with the 8 round extended mag but my Glock 48 holds 15 with the Shield Arms mags.

Given you said NOT compact, then I would highly suggest you try the Glock 48 while not being a true single stack the grip feels exactly like a slim Glock 19, very controllable and easily can be a range gun that one isn't cramped on the grip shooting.

The Sig P365XL would be a good contender with the extended magazine, or the Springfield Hellcat, but both of those are more compact in the grip than the Glock 43x/48's which I don't care for but many many others seem to enjoy them. These like the G43x/48's aren't true single stacks and are considered compacts.

Lightweight being another of your criteria would place a lot of single stack's of old out of the question, I would suggest looking at the wonder 9's by S&W but I would be concerned going forward about service and parts. But Kahr may have some offerings such as their PM9 or CM9 that may be of interest to you. I have no personal experiences with Kahrs but handled a lot of them at the time I bought my Shield .40 which was about 6-7 years ago they seemed very well built, but one has to be ok with the more revolver style DA trigger they have.

By the way love my 20" Bison Armory 6.8 SPC II barrel.

Thanks for all the replies! Right now the G48 and P225-A1 are top contenders.

Beretta Brigadier. They can be found fairly inexpensively, single stack, about a 4.5" barrel, IIRC.

The penultimate gun as you describe, at least to me, is a Lightweight Commander in 9mm.

A 96 Brigadier was my first ever pistol a looonng time ago. Actually thicker than the standard 92/96. I think you are thinking of a different Beretta model. I don't think they make a single stack 92 anymore.

As for the commander size 9mm 1911 etc, I have a Springfield EMP with the short barrel. I've thought of moving to the longer barrel, but the weight is a lot more than I would like. The G48 with a 4.2" barrel is listed as 20 ounces while the EMP Champion with the 4" barrel is 31 ounces.

Now the Sig P225-A1 is lighter than the G48 but also has a barrel that is 1" shorter. Looks like it's going to be the G48 for the win.
