I've had no luck finding primers lately for my first reloading venture. A friend of mine has three thousand Seller and Bellot SP primers he offered me at $40 per thousand. The only knock I've heard in a couple searches said they're hard. I'm planning on loading 38spl with H-38, S&B SP primers, Xtreme plated 158 grain bullets and Remington once fired brass. Any problems with my plan? I've yet to reload my first round so pardon my ignorance.

I've got some S&B primers but haven't used them yet. Having said that, I've shot many thousands of rounds of S&B commercial ammo - .45 Auto & 9mm and have yet to have a round not go bang. I assume S&B uses their own primers in their loaded ammo.

Your plan sounds solid to me.

If you were loading for a striker fired pistol there might be a problem with hard primers igniting. With a revolver there should be no such concern. The only thing with those primers are they are metric sized and will require a bit more pressure when seating them than say WIN or CCI primers do. I use them with great results.

I've fired about 6K of these through everything from a Luger P-08 1914 dated to modern striker fired autos, revolvers, and a notoriously fussy Browning High Power and 3 different revolvers. Never had a single FTF. Darn fine primers. Wish I had your friend. Nearly double the original retail price, but a good deal at the present.

I have run them with powders ranging from Red Dot, HP-38, HS-6, Unique, Power Pistol, with good ignition even in severe cold temperatures.

I have shot thousands of these with no issue, including with S&W revolvers with lighter springs.

He’s only doubling his money, if he bought them on sale, I would say that’s an honest profit right now.

I have used many thousands of them with no problems. If you have a revolver tweeked so it only runs with Federal primers they won’t work but you’d know that already.

That was the primers I could find, at Cabela's quite often, during the last shortage, and have shot thousands of them, with no problems. I would jump on that sale, before he finds someone else.

I for one certainly wish S&B primers would come back into the market. I was buying and shooting them exclusively while Cabela's was supplying them. I also found then softer than CCI primers and they ran very well thru my Lee Pro1000 press.

If they were available I'd buy them!

I purchased about 10k SPP and LPP fro Cabelas. The SPP worked flawlessly. The LPP were a cluster. Anvils falling out, no anvils and some would never go off no matter how many time they were struck. S & B never answered my emails.

I have used about 40K of SPP, only issue was 1 seemed to be missing an anvil. (caught it before loading looked funny in my hand primer tray, a big spot of color)

Used a couple k of LPP no issues with them.

I would get them.
I actually miss being able to get them from Cabelas for $20 a k.
S+B stopped importing them a while back. (2 years ago??)

They are a little milder than CCIs, and about as hard as CCIs IMO.
If you have a revolver tweeked so it only runs with Federal primers they won’t work but you’d know that already
As far as hardness the above is the only issue.

If your friend has some small rifle primers, send me his info or pm....I'd take S&B in a second, especially at $40/1000 now.

they are some of the best primers made in my book. i shot well over 20k of them in matches. use to get the around $24.00 dollars for 1k. i wish that i gotten a boat load of them. never had any problems with them.

I have used over 10K of the small primers without any problems. However, I mistakenly ordered 10K small rifle by mistake. My Glocks don't like the small rifle primers. About half the time they don't fire. So if I ever get a PCC I suppose I'll be set. Almost anyone would be happy to buy them, especially at $40 a thousand. That would be a fair price even before the shortage.

The last shortage is when and Cabelas is where he got them. I don't mind him making some money on the deal, it's still cheaper than the current pricing. I consider myself lucky to have found them. We went to the range today after I bought them where he shot 300 of his 9mm reloads with the S&B primers. All went bang. Now I'll get more familiar with the equipment and do more reading while i' m waiting for the powder and bullets to arrive.

Tell him you know he paid much less. See if he will come down a couple of dollars if you buy them all. Have cash in hand and take them home.
