Don't let the lights go out in Georgia

Now the Dem's are running ads that are pushing the likelihood of Federal marijuana legalization if the Senate is flipped. It's a brilliant strategy, really. It'll get out the single issue voters.

The vote will decide if we keep or lose the 2nd amendment.

In order to lose the 2nd amendment would require a 2/3 vote of approval in congress, then citizens of 2/3 of the states would need to vote to repeal the 2nd. Ain't gonna happen. Everyone knows that the Democrats would like to see more restrictive laws nationwide, but they also know that it isn't practical on a national level at this time. We survived 8 years with Obama/Biden with no new restrictive laws. The Democrats have bigger issues to worry about and won't be willing to start that fight now.

Not saying something won't come up in the future, just saying don't panic if the Democrats win. And living here I don't think Loeffler has a chance. Warnock, the Democrat will easily beat her. She is a bad candidate who comes across poorly. The 2nd race between Perdue, and his Democratic opponent is much closer and will be hard to predict. Both are bad candidates.

If the Democrats win both races it will be because of 2 things. Many Trump supporters keep making the "rigged" election claim. Some Republicans will stay home because they are convinced the election is rigged and it doesn't matter. Another group who strongly believes the election was fair have turned on Loeffler and Purdue and will refuse to vote for them because they attacked the Governor and Secretary of state. In an election that is going to be this close it won't take many to stay home to make a difference. Right now I'm predicting both Dems win, and it will be because Republicans shot themselves in the foot.

GA going to use those infernal Dominion machines again?

Nothing wrong with the machines and Georgia proved that argument should die. When you vote here you get a paper ballot that you look over and verify that those were your actual choices. If you agree then the voter feeds the paper ballot into a scanner to count the vote. Neither of those machines are connected to the internet.

During the 1st recount the paper ballots were recounted by hand and compared to the machine counts. We have 159 counties here. Virtually all of those counties got exactly the same vote count when done by hand as by machine. There were a handful off by 1-2 votes, I think one county was off by 10. If machines were flipping votes it would have been caught by the hand count. It didn't happen in Georgia, probably no where else.

There were 4 counties where a total of about 3000 paper ballots were found that did not get counted initially. Those were all in very Red counties run by Republicans. After they were counted it cut into Bidens lead by about 1500 votes. The paper ballots were then counted a 3rd time, this time by machine.

All signatures are matched twice. You provide your DL number which poll workers enter into a computer where it brings up your history. They know if you're eligible to vote, if you've already voted, and can match the signature.

I have 100% confidence that the vote here was legit.

Harris/Biden is far left of Obama/Biden. With the house and senate they will pack the court and take away whatever rights they want through confiscatory tax rates and regulations.
These are not conspiracy theories, they are the promises that have been made by Biden, Harris and many others on the left.
This thread will no doubt be locked soon and many posts deleted but this is a 2A issue.

No, gun control is not on the table even if the Senate is split 50-50. The filibuster rule will still be in effect.
Few issues / votes are literally and solely decided along party line (which is as it should be). More to the point, history has shown that both parties will embrace gun control to some degree, given adequate popular sentiment to 'do more'. This means that we should vote for folk that are willing / able to stand firm on the RKBA, and that we should plan to need more than a simple majority who are supportive of the RKBA.

the election is already rigged, which is why/how this has come to this point in Georgia. it is also very true that the survival of the 2nd Amendment is at stake. remember all the Democrats from California saying they were "moving" to Georgia just for this senatorial election.

The Dems have a fish on the line but it’s not in the boat yet. There’s still a lot of fighting to do and the fight is going to be a hard one that takes time.

Constitutional amendment takes 2/3 vote and there is no way that’s happening so the 2A will stay. The Supreme Court is in favor of the conservative masses right now and if the next administration expands the court to overcome that hurdle then it will be seen as a power grab and an end-run around legal roadblocks. Some of them are dumb enough to try it, and alienate their voter base along the way but I don’t see that happening for at least the first half of the next term. If political saber rattling eases up then maybe, but not currently. A lot of states are still controlled by hard conservative or middle of the road folks so I don’t expect much from anywhere except the extreme states, CA, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, New Jersey, possibly VA if they continue chasing every step CA makes.

Long story short, be concerned, and be active, but don’t panic. The sky is not falling, it’s just a little rough weather for the next four years. Hopefully it eases up in the 2024-2028 administration, whatever that ends up looking like.

I'm not ready to jump into the hype of gun confiscation. With the newly decide Supreme Court majority I doubt confiscation or even a gun tax would pass muster. It would negatively affect the poor and less fortunate, which is one of the key things the Ds are trying to change. Plus there are still a lot of Ds in pro gun states that would seriously need to think about their future if they voted for additional gun restrictions. The last time the Ds tried this it backfired and they lost both the House and Senate. Don't think they are ready for a repeat. Obama couldn't get gun legislation passed even when he had both the House and the Senate for two years. We should continue to be vigilant, but I'm highly doubtful we'll see widespread confiscation happening.

Now the D's packing the Supreme Court is something that I consider to be an even greater threat and a possibility if the Ds win the Senate.

Several posts have good advice not to panic and post screeds that may not be in accord with the actual legislative reality. It is a good point that Obama couldn't pass anti legislation. Recall that Donald, Mitch and Ryan did nothing to pass pro gun legislation in the first two years. In fact, they couldn't wait to run from it.

If you want a villain, it is Justice Roberts.

It is unfortunate that Perdue and Loeffler are so lousy (among many others) and both have their names tied to stock dumping pre-corona. That alone will sway many fence sitters to the left.

I don't see an outright repeal of the 2A happening, but like we see in Illinois the government can make gun ownership more difficult and expensive. By way of example Illinois couldn't ban FFL's, but they passed legislation which made it so expensive and difficult that we lost half of them so far. Cook County has a $.05 per bullet tax. When my CC permit was due to expire I couldn't apply for a renewal until I was within 90 days of the expiration date, and it took them much longer than that to process the renewal so I was without the permit for a while. Delays in processing FOID applications and renewals are an issue. "Assault weapons" are banned in numerous municipalities, and so on. We can't know what will happen, but I've heard enough from Biden to be concerned, such as naming Beto as a "gun czar". Remember, this is the same genius who's idea of home defense is to stand on your porch with a shotgun and fire off a couple of rounds, something I'm sure my neighbors would not appreciate.

I have no confidence. At all.

Obama wasn't able to ram gun control down our throats because, if I'm not mistaken, Democrats only had control of the House and Senate for 2 years (his first two years), where he spent most of his political capital on the ACA.

If you don't think, with control of the House, the Senate, and the WH, that there won't be a successful play made, then I don't know what to say.

The only comforting thought is, after whatever gun control measure is passed, they'll have to find somebody stupid enough to actually enforce it. I'll not volunteer.
