Looking for 1 more .40 to add to BHP, PX4, and S&W.

Prefer DA/SA but would consider a striker fired. Wadda ya think?

Price would be a consideration and so is used (most of my pistols were purchased used).

Don't need a carry gun, prefer "full size." What's a nice under-rated 40s&w for a range toy?

Striker: Walther PPQ one of the best striker triggers out there
DA/SA: CZ 75, no experience with one in 40 but in 9mm they're great

The HK USP was built around the .40 S&W.

There was a time they were abundant and cheap as police agencies abandoned them for guns ladies could shoot in 9mm. I picked this up from Summit for around $400 if I remember right. Great gun. I added adjustable night sights to replace the dead night sights.

I think the more important question you should ask is “what’s out there to buy for a used .40 DA/SA?”

The Sig, HK, and CZ 75 are all good options. So are the ones below. Personally, I think a CZ is hard to beat based on the price of mags and the ease of making it have a really nice trigger

CZP09 used to be offered in .40 and it’s a nice inexpensive shooter.

Ruger P series were offered in .40

FNX/FNP series...good guns.

A Sig 2022 would be a nice option.

HK USP or P30

The HK USP was built around the .40 S&W.
The only thing that would give me pause about the HK USP full size is their polymer mags.

I know HK has an enviable reputation for making quality mags, but in all the years since the introduction of the USP, and all the subsequent models HK has introduced since then, HK hasn't used polymer mags in any other model. Even the USP 45 and the USP Compact in 9 and .40 all use a metal mag. Just something to consider.

Ditto the HK USP40 which I used to have and wish I still had. I’m glad I still have my Sig P226/40.

I would also include the Walther PPQ and P99 AS in .40S&W

Sig p226 or p229: Here is my p226 Legion. You should be able to find LEO used refurb p229s (at least you could before the 'shortage') for around $500.

Here's one on GB for $600:

The cool thing about the P226 in 40 is that you can drop a stock 9mm barrel in place and have basically two guns in one. I just installed a new Silencerco threaded 9mm barrel for 140 bucks.
Same thing with the CZ 75, but you need a SP01 barrel.

You used to find S&W 4006 Taticals before the China flu for around 350.

I love my XD40 Service model. It was a gift from a friend who thought it was too high tech for him!:D I have shot thousands of rounds through it without a hiccup. Only drawback is capacity, but 12+1 works if you do. I am confident in it enough that it resides next to my bed every night.
