Getting ready to purchase a Cold Steel Blowgun. Seeking advice?

I have no clue.
I'd guess to say as small as possible - light and fast, rather the heavy and slow.
That said, good luck and keep us posted.
Sounds like a intereting project.

I would do some research and see if either are considered "standard" and not proprietary to Cold Steel given the sale of the company. It would be a bummer to snag one and then not be able to find all the cool darts that go with it within a couple years.

I dabbled in blowouts back in the late 90s. My high-school buddies and I bought them from the local flea market. We used them for paintball wars back in my dad's woods. If I remember correctly, they shot a small .40 ball that stung like a sonofgun as we were all playing in the late fall after football season was over and the paintball were stiff from the cold.

I do know it shot some sort of standard dart as well. I had a lot of fun killing soda cans and a stuffed animal I won at the fall festival from a good distance away.

Fun times. May get another one at some point since I haven't been able to shoot as much.

Get the big bore. You can sharpen these darts real nice. These darts hit HARD! I got the longest one piece (5') blowgun but if I got another one I would get a two piece if it were longer.

I had to start using a piece of 2x10 with four dots on it for a target. The plastic cone on these darts will break if hit by another dart. The popular .40 blowgun darts use a soft plastic cone and thin dart so the darts could be shot into each other without much damage. Not so with the cold steel darts.

I found that it is easy to aim by focusing my eyes on the target. I can see two blurry tips of the blowgun and I center the target between those two tips. Adjust for elevation if you are standing way back. Blow out hard and smooth with good breath follow through. Accuracy is insane with these things!

I've tried most of their darts but these are my favorite. A bench grinder will put an edge on them.

It would be fun to rig up a belt-fed blowgun using a leaf blower or big compressor. Just pull the belt through at whatever cyclic rate you wanted.

I made a 6 ft long paintball gun out of gas pipe once that was powered by a 80gal compressor. The magazine was a vertical tube that held about 20 balls. I couldn't control the ball valve quick enough to even keep a single ball in the mag. They literally came out as a steady stream! Was a fun Saturday project

IMHO go with the larger bore. I used a 1\2 inch tube (36") as a blowgun for 3 years. My darts were 7" of hardened steel wire ground to a needle point, base was either a golf tee, or wrapped with electrical tape to 15/32 ". Capable of taking small game easily, quiet, and after practice very accurate.
If you hit a tree you needed pliers to retrieve it. Have fun!
