So ive been doing some research on homemade bullet lubes. I was told that i could use wax rings, so i went to the depot and picked a couple up. I did some more research and found out what i bought is a blend of slack wax and microcrystalline wax. Has anyone used these rings? Or is returning them my best option?

Thats funny, this is the video that got me interested but he says its beeswax and petroleum. Mine is the same product but the FAQ,s page said its a crystalline blend. I trust what fortuncookie says but im getting conflicting information between fortunecookie and the rings FAQ,s page. Heres a pic of my exact ring C8E098E6-171E-4894-8078-60B0240FA121.jpeg

Those are what I use to flux my lead pot. I get crushed unusable ones the guys in the shop ruin along with the lead they remove when upgrading plumbing in old houses.
Just chip off a small chunk and plop it in the pot? What about the flash point?

Toilet rings were the thing--back when they were made with beeswax. Now, they are just another source of "ordinary" wax.
Microcrystalline wax is superior to ordinary paraffin as a bullet lube component.
I found that frequent fluxing really helped keep the lead consistent and I only used wax/bullet lube. Throw it in the melt, ignite with match, and work the melt while wax is burning. Gets oxidized metals back in the melt. Do frequently.
50% beeswax and 50% white grease or even just petrolatum) is simple and works well.
Warf's Pistol Lube: Beeswax & Virgin Olive oil.
"California Saeco Green:" 2 lbs Beeswax, 2 lbs Paraffin, 1 lb STP Oil Treatment
Adrian's Goo ( AKA Lithi-Bee): 1 part Beeswax, 1 part Lithium auto lube cartridge
Harry Pope Lube: Beeswax 2 oz, Bayberry wax 4 oz, mutton tallow 6 oz, steam cylinder oil 2 oz, Acheson graphite
Personally, I go to LSStuff for my bullet lube needs. 45/45/10 for tumble lube, Carnauba Red for heated Lubrisizers and pan lubing, BAC for all lubrisizers and pan lubing.

For MANY years I've used commode seal and canning wax or my wife scented candles in a 60/40 mix. I use it in all my handguns and rifles. Works great and leaves a perfect lube star on the muzzle.............DON"T WORRY.........Use it and be happy.

You can buy blocks of beeswax off eBay for not to much money. That’s where I got mine many years ago. You can also buy sheets of dental wax for making wax gas checks if you remember when those were popular.

Save the left over sheets of dental wax and melt them and make a tumble lube with them. Nothing goes to waste.

Are these recipes online so i can check the velocities? I will soon be loading 454 casull at 1,800 fps so i think i may need a pretty stout lube. This time around i may buy a well known lube to use as a control. Then i can tell if my homemade lube is better/same/worse

Yes, as noted above toilet rings used to be made of bees wax, but have long since been made with junk wax (all they have to do is seal a fitted joint). Bees wax isn't too hard to find and as some mentioned it can be found on ebay. I have purchased some from vendor sponsors on the Castboolits forum, http://castboolits.gunloads.com/. I would use paraffin before I used toilet rings for a couple reasons; I would know exactly what I was buying and it can easily be found in a grocery store. I have Used paraffin with a "thinner" (mineral oil, vaseline, Marvel's Mystery Oil, etc., to get the consistency I needed) for lower velocity/lower pressure rounds like 38 Special and 44 Special.

When you visit Castboolits, check out the Boolit Lube sub forum, lots of recipes and info http://castboolits.gunloads.com/forumdisplay.php?58-Boolit-Lube-!

Go to cast boolits forum:

For 1700fps and faster, I always used gas checks so I could still use my 11-14 BHN alloy. Never did any shooting at those velocities without gas checks, so I can't verify they are absolutely needed or not needed.
I would say, that there is almost NO lube that adheres to the case as well as Lee Liquid Alox (an undercoating/sealing compound). I use it with any commercial bullets that give me any leading and leading is eliminated (but I'm no where near 1800 fps).
Of course, you could try powder coating and be done.

Fortunecookie 45lc ran test with PC vs PC lubed and just lube no PC. And i like the idea of PC and lubing my gas checked 454 casulls.
