Picked up my daughter’s 21st birthday present today. Generally I don’t go changing things on a brand new gun but there are some things I want to change before I give it to here. Basically all the plastic controls and guide rod have to go. You guys have a favorite source for these items? Anything else I should consider?

A lighter hammer spring. Starting point for improvement is the "D" spring, which I think is an 18 lb spring. You can go as low as 12 lb (maybe 11 lb), the stock part is I think a 20 lb spring. Langdon's site will show what the different hammer springs will give for trigger pull weights somewhere in the FAQ pages.

I'd probably only change the hammer spring, well other than getting rid of the wrap around, finger groove grips, though I suspect folks that buy guns with those probably like them.

Thinner grips. I am a man with med/smallish hands and the factory rubber grips are too big for me even without the finger grooves. The D spring is a worthy addition for the DA trigger unless you're going to jazz it up all the way with other custom parts, then you may want to try something even lighter, but I am quite satisfied with the factory Beretta D spring.

Are there actually any 'plastic' control parts on that gun?

They certainly feel like it and look like it, but I’ve read that some of them are metal with a plastic over molded on them. Either way, I’m replacing them.

I looked on the links provided by @JTQ above but the only place that had stock was Midwest Gunworks. The kit has SS parts for the safety lever, mag release, trigger and guide rod. The other parts have to be sourced separately I guess. I was able to find a slide lock but haven’t been able to locate a take town lever. Several places are showing it as discontinued, which is disconcerting

Factory D spring is 16 lbs.

I know many people go lower, but I personally never go below a "D" spring.

I honestly like the brushed finish better on most autoloaders, so the Beretta is a good choice, she'll love it I'm sure.

There is literally zero reason not to put a D spring in it. They should all come standard with it. It makes a big difference in DA stroke and a small difference in SA also.

Agree. The D spring is a vast improvement. Even if a person is one of those weirdos that insists a heavy DA pull should happen on the first shot, for safety sake, the D spring provides plenty of tension. It doesn't make it a hair trigger, it just lightens it to the appropriate weight. That makes the gun easier to shoot accurately. Seems kind of important in a defensive gun.

OP, great purchase for your daughter! Pickup a set of thin G10 grips off Ebay, a Wilson Combat 14lb hammer return spring, a Mec-gar 18 round mag and 500 round of ammo.
