Thinking about getting a set of these for my sr1911. Id like to clean up the sight picture over the ruger novaks that come with the gun. Anyone have experience with the heinies?

Also is the rear sight deep compared to the novaks? Meaning you can see more of the front sight (vertically)? Ive found being able to see more front sight helps me align my sights alot.

My current sights are the standard ruger st1911 novak sights. Ive removed the rear white dots and painted the front dot orange. It stands out nice, but i find the novaks arent a "crisp" picture.

Edit: mesaured the novak rear rear width, .144" wide and .107" deep. Front sight is .127 wide.

I have used slant pros on a couple Colts, and prefer them to the Novaks. The sight picture with the Heinies is similar to the Bomars that I've always preferred. The Novak sight picture has always seemed a bit busy to me. I don't have guns with Novaks and Heinies in front of me at the moment, so can't report the sight notch dimensions.

Thanks for the input.

I have the slant pro straight eight on two of my Dan Wesson's (pretty sure they were designed for DW or something) and enjoy them. Once I got used to the dot/black I can't go back to the busy 3 dot.

Use CAP on my Glocks and my Wilson is orange/black.

For the Heine's themselves? I wish the white outline was a little brighter (the rim collects carbon and needs to be cleaned with toothpick every so often) on the front sight, but I'm always wanting that with my colorblind eyes, I need maximum contrast.

Any idea what the depth of the notch is?

Check out Harrison Design. I changed out the Novak sights on my DW and went with Harrison sights because of two reasons.
1. No logo or name
2. Narrower notch then Heinie. I believe the Heinie notch was .156 the Harrison was .140. The wider rear notch leaves a lot of dead space.

I liked the Harrisons enough to have them installed on my Hi power.

Thanks, i will. Heinie has 2 widths according to their site (for the ar1911).The slant pro says .125" notch width, and the ledge is.156". Agree with not wanting too much space.

I haven’t used the Heinies on a 1911 but I had them installed on my duty weapon (Glock). Sure wished I took them off and kept them when I retired.
