Well, with @CQB45ACP thread on Sportsman's Warehouse losing their way and allowing their buyout by "Great American" owners of Bass Pro, Cabela's and others. I figured it was time to give some one off sporting goods stores some free advertising, as it's time for others to shine. The consolidation that's been happening in our industry the past 15-20 years is not good.

Well, I'll post one that I came across in Casper, WY is a great gem; excellent selection, helpful employees, and even during the beginnings of this current "panic" they had a good selection of goods.

So post up any Mom and Pop's, smaller chain stores, hole in the walls that you have come across that represent what was good with our industry before the likes of "Great American" conglomerates.

Sadly, every single one of my old favorites is gone.

Either physically non-existent for a variety of reasons or the creeping societal/commercial-corrosion of the internet has changed them and their practices irrevocably.

I know there are still some out there - or otherwise HOPE so but, my own personal favorites.... all gone now.

Todd.

The best part is at Husseys you can just bring a credit card and buy anything you might need.
Hunting licence, rifle and ammo, clothing, tent and sleeping bags, a canoe and paddles, frying pan and dutch oven, food and adult beverages, a wedding dress if your significant other desires to be married at hunting camp and probably a new puppy from the for sale bulleten board. It is on line as well.

I really haven’t heard of that many Husseys that take credit cards. PayPal maybe...

There are several in Maine but the three best the days are The Kittery Trading Post, Husseys General Store, and Old Town Trading Post. All three have been around for about forever and are just amazing places.
I've ordered from Kittery.
There was an older couple that ran a place called MrBottle here in Wichita, she could be a little sour (might have just been the punk kid issue) but they both knew reloading inside and out and were very helpful to this punk kid.
I also had the great pleasure of visiting the Gun Room at the Grand in Medicine Lodge Ks.
run by Bob Stutler former production manager for Ruger.

This is making me nostalgic in the worst way...not that many years ago here in Annandale, VA (inside the Beltway) were three gun shops/ranges within 100 yards of each other. Dawson’s, the Loading Bench, and can’t remember the two-lane range name. Now they are a Korean barbecue, a Peruvian chicken place, and pho place.

Is Van Raymond’s Outfitters in Bangor still in business? I haven’t been in Bangor in many years, but loved that store.

BenEzra, unfortunately Van was "urged" by his wife that they had not taken a vacation in 35 years and he needed to retire. He sold out his last bit of stuff two years ago at the end of January. Things were never the same afger the Eastern Fine Paper mill across the street shut down sadly. He tried to get me to buy him out in the worst way for 6 months but I held strong. This business is not for the faint hearted. I miss him and Rick in the gunroom.

Ross's Coin and Gun in Idaho Falls has probably been our favorite LGS for over 40 years. I don't know how they took that picture (if it comes up for you) though. The inside of Ross's doesn't really look like that - the gun wall and counter aren't curved, and they're probably no longer than 25 or 30 feet long at the most. And of course right now, they don't have that many guns in stock - especially not these days.
Nevertheless, I don't think Ross's has ever done us wrong on a gun deal. And if they don't have exactly what we're looking for, they've always got it for us. They do trade-ins and layaways too.:)
