Gun care supplies getting scarce?

Over the last 2 days I've noticed the amount and variety of gun cleaning supplies being low at Wal Mart , Bass Pro, and Academy.
Very little to no Remington products (which makes sense with the bankruptcy), but other brands were low as well.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Haven't been to a gun store this this mess started, couldn't tell you.

All the more reason to use what's around the house.

Makes me wish I stocked up on Rem oil spray and those disposable wipes.
You clean your guns???
I have a lot in stock so I haven't been looking.
A lot of my cleaning is with brake cleaner and lube is with atf.
Copper fouling is seldom removed.

I hadn't noticed the shortage, but like others have said, it makes sense. New owners in particular will want "gun products".

No bother to me at all; sometime awhile back I bought a gallon of food-grade air compressor oil, something listed as "Lubriplate FMO-350 AW Oil Replacement". This, combined with whatever brand cheap brake cleaner from the auto parts store, fits my chemical needs completely, and I still have plenty of other stuff too.

Here's what I buy. I swear it's identical to Breakfree CLP. When the package says Breakfree though, it's worth $8 a bottle more. Both bottles are 4oz. Screenshot_20201226-080337_Samsung Internet.jpg Screenshot_20201226-080630_Samsung Internet.jpg

Highly doubt most of those “new gun owners” are actually buying cleaning stuff. Most of them bought their piece to protect against mobs of enraged TP hoarders/urban chaos/hedge against Gun Grabbers, and said gat now resides safely in the sock drawer/closet shelf where it will remain untouched for decades.

I find whatever works on a rusty, oil caked, and carbon crusted automotive engine will work on a firearm. I like to keep Mobil 1, Marvel Mystery Oil, Carb cleaner, and PB Blaster in my possession. Old cotton clothing or sheets also work as rags and patches. Even the cheap cleaning kits will work well if you are careful when shoving them down the bore. I ask for my empty containers of Mobil 1 from the garage when I get my oil changed. There is usually a couple tablespoons of oil left inside. Drain them into one bottle overnight using a funnel. After half a dozen oil changes I end up with 1/3 of a can to use. YMMV

Gotta laugh. I been doing that since I was a kid. I thought that it was my own invention. When my buddies changed their oil I asked for the "empties." After I while i tired not to tell them why, got sick of being called a cheap ass.

It helps to specify Which type of Hoppes is being discussed: oil, or the nasty harsh chemical?

My mind-reading skills have begun to fade.

When I first searched for details about Ballistol, luckily this 'CLP' product had no extra 'highly toxic :alien: alien nuclear solvent' as an additional part of its family.

I don't know if this is the reason but Remington has split its Arms and Ammo divisions because the Arms end is going into bankruptcy. A shame really, they used to be a great gun at a fair price. Still shooting my 12 ga. 1100LH I bought in 1976 (rebuilt once at Remington 20 years ago) and my 3006 700 BDL.

Where you been the last three months?:scrutiny:
All of Remington, not just the ammunition division, was broken up and sold off by the bankruptcy court at the end of September.

An absence of rem oil isn't a bad thing. The only items I need to replenish from time to time that are specifically for cleaning guns are Mpro-7 solvent which I buy by the gallon, and large cleaning patches. Otherwise, I use generic motor oil for an exterior preservative, white lithium grease as a lube, and carb cleaner as a solvent for really dirty clunkers like my SKS, 22 pistol, and an AR15 that exists solely for range use/abuse.
