Lightweight Gun Oil Aerosol Suggestions

Howdy,

Do any of you all know of any lightweight gun oil you could suggest?

Primary use as lube & protectant.

My Remington 1100 likes its lube light. Can shhot low brass and no brass cheap and light shells if the lube is not heavy. Growing up that meant WD40. Later my preference was Rem Oil in an aerosol can. Hard to find Remoil lately and I am looking for a substitutes.

I am not wedded to gun-particular products. I use motor oil, auto grease, and ATF fluid on guns where they are effective.

Thanks for any pointers.

I use a lot of JB80. Wonderful all purpose lubricant that won't freeze. Heavy enough to stay where you put it, light enough to get where it needs to be and not gum up the works. LPS#2 is even better, but more expensive and harder to find. I like starting fluid for cleaning out the carbon on 1100s and other autos. I follow with a very light amount of Liquid wrench on the rings and cylinder, JB-80 in the action.

TriFlow ... I wouldnt say its super lightweight though
I suppose everything is relative. If you can spray it out of can, I generally think it is pretty thin, and compared to a typical gun lube like Wilson Ultima-Lube II Universal, it is, and probably thinner than regular weight Ultima-Lube II. Tri-Flo is probably thicker than Amsoil MP, though.

I used Rem Oil long enough ago it was good. Apparently the "new" stuff (since the early 2000s at least) is random garbage with a Rem Oil label. Replaced with Ballistol, which I like better in many ways anyway. Comes aerosol, spray, just liquid. I also have some in a stencil ink brush to apply like that.

Break-free CLP works due to the teflon in it, so always add an agitator to the bottom (unless aerosol) and shake every 15 seconds to keep the TFE flakes off the bottom.

TriFlow is indeed fantastic stuff. Some of out paint shakers get it on certain areas. Some of them are getting upwards of 50k full cycles. I wouldnt say its super lightweight though
Tri-Flow is a Sherwin-Williams product, so I understand why the paint store guys are using it.:)

Say what!? Maybe they bought the Tri-Flow makers or something. SW owns all sorts of stuff: namely purdy brushes and graco sprayers. We are in our 52nd year of selling Benjamin Moore lol so SW might as well be a curse word!

Ooops.

Here's a 2009 article https://www.webbikeworld.com/tri-flow-lubricants/

The company, owned by Sherwin-Williams makes a wide variety of cleaners and lubricants that (based on their marketing info) are aimed at the consumer “enthusiast” (their word) market.

G96 is pretty thin, and I think they make an aerosol version.

They do make an aerosol: G96 Complete Gun Treatment. My experience is that it's an outstanding protectant, average as a cleaner and lube. It does smell nice, though. The G96 Gun Oil is the same thing in a liquid.
Another, separate, product is the G96 Synthetic CLP Gun Oil. It's their civilian-sale version of their mil-approved CLP. A very nice CLP, but pricey. Also, doesn't have the nice smell of the two G96 products above.

The gas system on the 1100 was meant to be run dry, but I've found a light wiped-on coat of BreakFree CLP makes cleaning the mag tube easier. Remington Dri-lube is good for low temperature lube to keep an 1100 functioning.

Looks like Rem Dri-lube is a teflon product. And "Currently Unavailable" from Amazon. I suspect the latter is common for all Remington gun products. I do wish the new owners would get the ball rolling. I am a happy owner of 6 Remington long guns and would hate to see support and new options go away.

I almost forgot, Amsoil also has a gun lube product https://www.amsoil.com/p/100-synthetic-firearm-lubricant-and-protectant-flp/

I've never used it, so I don't know if it is any different than the MP general purpose spray lube, and perhaps just in different packaging.

Available from Amsoil online. Amsoil also makes a cleaner with good reviews. Sent an email to a local distributor to see if any local retailers carry them. I prefer to buy local when possible/practical.

I use tri-flow on a lot of stuff, but after talking to some locksmiths I know, I started using Super Lube, because they use it exclusively and swear by it. Available in a variety of flavors (wet, dry, greases, etc)

I haven’t used it on any firearms as of yet

I like their grease on my pistol slides. I use two kinds, their usual synthetic and their grease made for disk brake caliper pins. Works for that, too. I don;t use the silicone grease.

I just received my can of CorrosionX in the mail today. I was doing my own research on corrosion inhibitors and stumbled on a thread about it. The can itself touts it as being a water displacing, long wearing corrosion inhibitor, anti-seize and lubricant. Those who have used it here on THR rave about it. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Hit up your local auto parts store. You’ll find lots of options.

I buy Lucas Oil CLP spray from ORielleys Auto Parts. Works great and I prefer it to Remoil

I also keep a few other options around including Ballistol, which is a favorite and I believe to be the bees knees!

I use a lot of eezox, but not as a lubricant or cleaner. It's a great application for rust prevention.
