Ya'll do realize I'm becoming terribly jealous of your photography skills, right?:ninja:

Range report, great gun, super accurate, recoil less than what I expected (240 Gr 7.5 Unique .44 Special, 250 Gr 10 Unique 44 Mag). I will say however the factory wood grips are terrible, the shape is fine but they are sharp at the backstrap, drew blood from the web of my hand. Hoque rubber on the way. Have to look for some comfortable attractive wood. Suggestions welcome.

Not wood, but makes magnum loads comfortable for long strings (S&W 500 X Frame Houge Tamers)

The x frame grips do Make a huge difference. I dont have them on my heavy guns but I do on my 329s. They are considerably better for recoil.

It's the best 44 special ever made but heavy 44 mags are something I shoot one cylinder of

One of mine has been fixed a couple times. Even with mostly special level loads . Yolk. Cylinder latch. Hand..... but I love the feel of that gun. I wish they would make one in a 617. Make it a 10 shot Scandium 4 inch. It's funny my k frame 22lr guns weigh double what my 44 does. I can walk miles of fence with my 329 pd on my hip and forget it's even there

A 22lr would sell great. I really think the exact gun in 357 would sell better than the 44 really

Smith made an L frame variant that was very similar, but like most of their cool designs it was a short run. They do make a scandium N frame. 357, but the looks are polarizing and it's not as packable a 4" L.

The Rugers stand up better to shooting STOUT rounds repeatedly than some other options. But sounds like you have that covered with the SBH.

If you’re looking to shoot factory loads and middle of the pack reloads and just the occasional 300 grainers then I’d also look hard at what S&W is putting out there.

I have both brands in .44 Mag and don’t have a preference either way. I just don’t run the really heavy stuff through the Smith.

I like the 2.2 inch Redhawk and the 4.2 inch. Both have shot well for me over the years and I still enjoy them. The extra steel in them assists with dampening recoil and makes for a pleasant day at the range when ammo is in the middle of the pack. Say a LSWC 240 grain and 10 grains of Unique. My 7.5 inch Redhawk is really easy to manage with that load.

I'd also go with the S&W. The S&W 629 is under that budget, a real sweet shooter.

A hot loaded .44 Special hard cast will do everything the average man would ever need.

Ruger has a 5” classic styled 5 shooter GP100 and a smaller stainless 3” model if your wanting smaller. Hard to beat, and no insulting lock ala S&W.

Meh, prefer without the lock, and the stainless guns with the older, hardchromed action parts, but the newer guns are still good guns; the lock in a 340SC with magnums (ouch! damn! @#$%%^#^^!!!!) has never engaged.
Concur that you don't need wide open reloads; my old .44 loads were every bit of 1400'sec, but took a deer with a 1000'sec .45 Colt from a trapper carbine; she was dead right there.
