Well they are silver in color so maybe they are rated for werewolf protection?
And aren't the vast majority of 45 Colt chambered guns Single Action and therefore completely inadequate for self defense?
How dare Hornady commit such an act of false advertisement?

Hell, at this point the three guys in America who actually have a use for the stuff will probably get into a bidding war for it.

Wow. With sales tax, that's $6.50 per shot. Even more if it's shipped. I think silver quarters are selling for less than that, so maybe these could be actual silver bullets.

BTW, should we be complaining about it being labeled 45 "Long" Colt? I forgot what the rule is on that. :)

No kidding.

If this keeps up I think I’m going to melt down some beat up old coins I have in a drawer somewhere and cast them into SWC’s...I’ll probably be saving a bunch of $$ if I do that...o_O

Stay safe.

Bad news. I checked, and a circulated silver quarter only weighs about 96 grains, so it would take about 2 of them and a silver dime to make a full-weight 45 Colt bullet. Almost right on the money for 380 ACP and 32 S&W Long though!

Don’t get me started...;)

Whenever someone says “Long Colt” to me I always interject “As opposed to Short Colt?” It always stops them in their tracks.:p:D

I had to go look for this just to be sure it wasn’t an auction of some kind. It’s not.

I have decided not to do business with price gougers after everything settles down. Here’s another for my list...not that I ever bought anything from them before. I just will not in the future. I may be moving to Texas in a couple of years. Good info to remember.

I think that is an excellent decision. I hope you enjoy Texas. Apparently the countryside varies a great deal there, which should be interesting. Wisconsin, where I live, is mostly rolling forest land. I like seeing other places, but I don't travel enough to do it.

Excellent price point, I just purchased two boxes....NOT. There are plenty of 45 Colt Firearms that could use such ammo to good results. At that price, I would prefer throwing rocks for target practice. The prices will be there until the basics of economics come into play. Lower demand or higher availability. High prices that are painful actually encourage supply. Wouldn't it be nice to sell a couple boxes for $124? Well if you conscience would allow it. The point being others see people making money and want to participate. Anyhow I have never purchased 45 Colt since I load my own.

I looked at some of their other ammo prices just for grins. How does 50 rounds of Winchester Ranger XT hollow point 380 in a 50 round box for $399.00 sound to you? So $8 per round? Yep cross them off my list.

I think that Cheaper Than Dirt guy has a new ammo store.

Wow.......somebody here at the shop just asked me if I was interested in some 45 colt critical defense ammo, and now I see this. Seems he can't read the difference between Colt and ACP.
$124 a box.........good luck. Almost like black market toilet paper from the virus scare last year.

Besides.....the gun i shoot 45 Colt out of is a 454 Casull.......if I find the need to have to use it for defense, the hell with that ammo.....I will not give the perps family the pleasure of an open casket

This^

I reload and actually the price and availability of 45 colt is what started me down that path.

I went into a local store the other day and they said they had some 9mm, $40 a box. That's almost 4x the pre covid price, I have not been back to that store since.

I am glad I reload, say what you will about the big box stores, but the Big C and Sch, when they have it in stock, are charging pre covid prices or at least close to it. I was able to get 1000 SPPs for $46 when they had them in stock.

Howdy

I started shooting Cowboy Action back around 2000. I clearly remember a box of 50 rounds of 45 Colt (don't get me started on Long Colt) cost between $18.50 and $22.

At about the same time I started reloading my own 45 Colt ammo, and I don't think I have bought a factory round since.

So I have not been keeping track of ammo prices, other than to be vaguely aware that the price was steadily climbing.

Just checked Midway.

They list 57 different items for 45 Colt.

Lowest price for boxes of 50 is $31.99, highest price is $70.99.

Didn't even bother looking at the stuff that comes 20 to a box.

And yes, it is all out of stock.

P.S. haven't checked on the price of primers, powder, and bullets recently, but I'm sure with the panic buying of guns and ammo, they have gone up too.
