SW 3913

My S&W 908 arrived about six weeks ago, with only a Promag.

Paid about $75 (+) for the same '3913 type' OEM mag on E-Bay, because even if I never carry it, the next owner (& there will be a future owner for All of Your guns also) might expect an OEM mag.
If a family member inherits your S&W (-for 'Carry'-) and doesn't know any better :), do you want Them to simply slap in a Promag for self-defense?

You don't know what's Really gonna happen when you sell it or become incapacitated.:(

Miami_JBT: our 908 and 3913s are considered to be the lightest of the 3rd. Gen S&W guns.
I can't imagine anybody complaining about carrying such "all-metal, 9-rd." guns for hours on end. Our cats love plastic- they lick it due to one of the chemicals used in plastic bags.
My 4040PD makes the 3913 seem like a heavy gun.

I have a slick-slide 3914DAO- that one takes the cake for thinness. I need to pick-up one of the low profile slides and get it even better. The true DAO is really nice, and not the "kinda" DAO on the 53/54 guns.

Magazines for just about anything S&W 3rd gen related is long gone. 4506, 4516, 5906, 6906, 4013, 4013TSW, etc...

That is one very nice looking 3913, sir.
Last year I think I plucked the last two original 1006 mags on earth from the interwebs. They wound up costing me about 85$ each, WAWSAD. So I feel your pain. Wolff will probably make new springs for any mag you find. If you want originals, you're going to have to start hittin' the bricks, Checking out Pawn Shops, flea markets, gun stores. Good luck.

It took me a few months looking on eBay to find a magazine for my DAO Smith 4053. Finally got one for $35. That vintage pistol is a rugged beast. Give Guns and Gunparts in Springfield MA a call. If he’s still around h e might have some. He used to work for Smith and Wesson, when he retired he started a shop out of his house, and specializes in Smiths.

I’ve owned at least 4 3913’s. Probably 20 3rd gen guns in total. I owned a 3914DAO gun a few years back. The only thing I liked about the trigger is it gave double strike capability. I own a 3953 now. That trigger is far smoother than the 3914 was. All they did with the 3914DAO was remove the single action notch on the hammer and get rid of the safety.

Mine was NIB and kinda gritty. An action job perfomed and it's now perfectly smooth. I had a 3954, but definitely prefer the longer stroke and restrike of the real DAO.

I seem to remember that the 3953 I had (wished I still did) even though it was hammer-fired was a pre-staged action where the hammer was partially cocked by the action of the slide and finished by the trigger and was not a true DAO with double-strike capability. Somewhat akin to the 1st and 2nd Gen LCPs, or like a Glock, but with a hammer.

Yes- the 3953/54 uses a partially cocked DAO single-strike system.

I am now an owner of my 3rd SW autoloader, this one much older than my M&P ones. Paid $500 a used 3913 that had been sitting in the used gun case for months. I always looked at it and thought about. Ive seen mention on THR much love for these 80s and 90s metal frame SW autoloaders. It's a great shooter and with my shaky hands I must have put a handful of rounds thru the same hole at 5 yards. I do need to get extra mags for it. I've only come across an OEM on eBay and it was going for $70, the rest were ProMAG and Triple K. Any opinions on the aftermarket ones?

I have a couple of Triple K mags for my Ruger P95 and they seem to work fine.

I regret selling my 3913 LadySmith, but times were tough back then. That was a nice carry gun and nice to shoot. It had a melted look to it and had a single decocker lever making it slightly thinner
