NRA files for bankruptcy, announces it's ditching New York for Texas

If the NRA is funneling money into the board's pockets, and per another poster the GOA is more of the same, then where's the best place to send our money?

FPC or FPF? SAF? NAGR or CCRKBA? State level gun rights groups? Is direct funding to the NRA-ILA still viable?

I don't care about memberships, raffles, discounts or other "perks" or getting free swag made in china. I just want to preserve our rights.
In the next few years I'm guessing the courts will be the final make or break point for any gun policies.

I realize there are a lot f NRA bashers. Perhaps deserved, perhaps not. As a retired guy, I can assure you that, had the NRA not existed we would not have the 2nd Amendment rights we have today.

Has it been corrupted? Perhaps. That’s one’s opinion, right or wrong.

Are there better places to fight the good fight? Perhaps

I would suggest that we don’t turn on our own like a pack of hyenas. If you believe there are more deserving organizations, support them. I think there are a lot of whiners and few doers.

If people opened their pockets as much as they open their mouths, we would be in better shape

the SAF looks like it has a good sized membership and puts their money where their mouth is. I think I'll send them some dough.

The NRA is huge and I don't think leaving in droves is going to fix their problems. Sometimes you have to put up with a little bad for the greater good.

In these current political times especially the next two to four years our side to show weakness and disorganization to include the NRA will only embolden anti gun politicians and organizations.
Maybe. But it’s not like them being bold will do much. You have to be bold and know how to play the game.

I have reasons for not wanting to support NRA, but when looking for a group I could support, SAF fit the bill.

Unless your name is Wayne.

Seems to be there must be a lot of younger members/memories here, Have they forgot or where they never aware of all the stuff Wayne LaPierre was caught doing. Personal trips using rented aircraft for personal business charged to the NRA. Buying expensive clothes and charging them to NRA accounts. Personal vacations charged to NRA. Oh how short the memories are! He screwed the membership royally! Texas? He belongs in jail! PS I cancelled my membership years ago when this was all made public!

Vote and run for office.

Ditto. Memories are short. The next several years will be long. They are the most effective lobby.

If you are not a member of the NRA you really should consider joining. They are like the AARP, a huge lobbying force in Washington and your main voice. And tell a friend. Our rights are in danger now. Without the NRA your gun rights will be GONE faster than you can believe.

Whether you realize this or not, it is the truth: If you are a shooter and you are not a member of the NRA, you are riding on the backs of those who are members. That is how much you owe your rights to lobbyists and big money

NRA. is the best place. Still the most powerful. That is why they are under attack.

As in the wannabe WLP's who have zero history of legislative accomplishment?
The piggybacker of lawsuits funded by others?
More nepotism than the NRA could dream of?
An organization that spends a greater % of income on board member and administrative expenses than the NRA?

Yep, I can say thats GOA.

Like that missing $64 million??? That is a pretty high expense. Is the GOA missing $64 million?

Staying didn't seem to help them, either.

Generally speaking, companies that file for bankruptcy have lost a lot of their power, and subsequent reorganization along with a change of address is no assurance of future success. Many go on to file for bankruptcy yet again.

I guess then since they have no power and are not a threat, Miss James will be dropping the litigation correct? NO NRA is still powerful, and you need to join if you enjoy the 2nd Amendment. Bottom line. This is exactly the same as infighting in a presidential election. It is binary choice. If you do not support the NRA you are helping ban guns. Period. Bloomberg agrees that you should not join the NRA.

As with most news stories, nobody has complete information and we'll find out more as matters progress. Regardless of how you feel about its current administration, it is the primary defense of gun ownership in the US.

The bankruptcy is all about them leaving NewYork, a place were they have nothing but enemies, and restructuring in a friendlier environment.

The NRA still must come clean on their lewd spending habits. They have violated the trust of many, myself included. I am not interested in working hard so that cheaters like LaPierre and Oliver North can live large. Rules are established for a reason. Move to Texas, but I will not be donating or renewing my NRA membership again.

I also don’t appreciate the NRA being a non-secular institution.

All it does is exclude member of our society with different beliefs. As gun owners, we need EVERY person we can get, not just those that go to the same house as us etc. That’s coming from a God fearing Christian man as well.

This could possibly be a legal side step to shelter them from some litigation until after the restructuring

"Friday’s move will likely put the New York lawsuit on hold, and a reincorporation in Texas could strip James of her (James) power to dissolve the group."

Quote from Wayne:

"This strategic plan represents a pathway to opportunity, growth and progress," Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's CEO and executive vice president, said in a statement Friday. "The NRA is pursuing reincorporating in a state that values the contributions of the NRA, celebrates our law-abiding members, and will join us as a partner in upholding constitutional freedom."

The NRA said Friday it is in its "strongest financial condition in years," but the restructuring will help to "streamline costs and expenses." In a Q&A published on its website, the group said it is not admitting to mismanaging donor funds, and that it does not expect any impact to NRA programming. Its headquarters currently remain in Fairfax, Virginia.

Not saying this is true, just, that there may be more to this than is being reported on CNN.

I would agree 99% , exception: Support SOMEONE that is pro-2A and lobbys, file lawsuits.

Trouble is ppl can talk, but don't walk. No $ into lawsuits = other side winning just as sure as not showing up to a civil $$ court hearing, the other side wins by default.

Not joining/assisting ANY pro-2A groups is , in effect, assisting ANY anti-2A group. Please , just think about it.
