So still waiting for my gun licece (and so far it looks i will wait at least till april, thanks covid...) and looking for my first handgun. Steyr A2 MF (its defacto L9 A2) is one what i really like.
But they are comming here (Czech) very slowly, shooting ranges are closed so looking for some feedback about this gun.

So far i found few revies and first impresions and all of it was positive. But i also did read about issues with lower powered, reloaded and higher-factory-tolerance ammo. Which could be a big problem since i will shoot cheapest ammo possible.

So could you share your experiences wiht this new A2 version?

Thanks

Sorry no hands-on experience with the L9-A2 MF version but I do have time spent with the earlier M9 model. One of the first things that drew me to the M was it's overall design and how comfortable the grip frame was on it. The ergonomics were great (with the exception of the manual safety being located inside the trigger guard!), and I really was intrigued by the trapezoidal sights! They took some getting use to at first but are easy to use and allow for quick acquisition. No problems with any type of ammo and along with being very reliable as well.

As to the latest version, definitely some improvements like the changeable grip panels and backstraps to give you a more customized grip to your hand size. Also the trigger has had some changes done to it as well. Overall I think the L9-A2 MF should make for a great first handgun!

I've always liked the looks of those, and would try one in a heartbeat if they lost that internal lock; just couldn't handle having that on a potential SD pistol.

To be honest in all the years I have had my Steyr M9 I haven't given a thought about the lock. It's never been used and in that sense it really hasn't been a problem. Actually I have found the manual safety inside the trigger guard to be more of a concern than the internal lock.

I'm sure it functions well, and I'm also sure it's not completely rational, but I 'just don't like' those types of locks on handguns. Same reason I look for S&W revolvers without the Hillary hole, and put blank covers on the ones that have them. As I said, more emotional than rational, I'm sure, but if I always made sense my wife would need another hobby, wouldn't she? :)

The thing is that A2 supposedly have diffrent barrel/chamber and thats why its ammo picky - so far its look more like rumor for now, but i would like clarify that before buying.

That lock on side is useless for me (i will loose keys two minutes after buying...) and i didnt find any records of some complications connected to it. Also manual safety in trigger guard is past and new models dont have it, so that ok too

So, weve got a Time Lord and a Belter in this thread so far.....Ill add a Heretic Space Marine for good measure.

Ive always been intrigued by the Steyrs, and thats sayin a lot because I dont normally do plastic guns. Good luck, OP, let us know how you like it!

I never came across any talk of problems associated with the safety lock and as I already mentioned was not a fan of the location of the manual safety so no big deal that they left it out of this newer version. The L9-A2 MF certainly looks like it has all the bells and whistles to make for a decent choice in a 9mm. pistol. Definitely let us know what you eventually decide to go with.

Good news is that A2 MF is already in some stores over here (and little bit cheapper that i expected) and there is slim chance that in few weeks there will be finally gun permit testing. On another hand - ppl over here are absolutly lunetic and so i expect we will hit another hard lockdown soon.

Anyway - so far im decided for Steyr, i just like it, but if its ammo picky, that would be deal breaker. Not so much if it will feed at least S&B 115 Grs.

If i got it, i will write some review for sure, but currently it can be next mont or next chrismas. Who knows...

I wouldn’t expect the new Steyr to be ammo picky, as neither my M9A1 nor S9A1 is fussy about ammo. I shoot a lot of S&B 115/124 gr, so I think you’ll be good to go.

I love S&B ammo, been a little hard to find over the last few months.

I think i "met" Geco only as reloaded, PP isnt common too. S&B is dominating ofc, after thats is about shop preferences - GGG, Magtech, Remington, American Eagle, Barnaul, Tula and new chinese/russian army (?) ammo. But HP and similiar are prohibited (as ammo with "incereased wounding capacity"), but thats changing literally now, so it will probably change.
We also have local reloading factory Limit (****ty one) and Alsa.
Lowest price 400 Kč (19 $) per 100 reloaded and about 470 Kč (23 $) per 100x S&B 115 Grs

The newer Steyrs are on my radar. I only have one, an early model M40 that I really love. The sights are funky as is the safety, but the trigger is sweet. The only gripe I had was the rather slick grip. I remedied that with a some kind of talon-type grip that makes a world of difference. When prices settle back down out of the stratosphere, a new Steyr will soon be in my safe.

I did have to replace the stock recoil spring assemble on my M40 as sometimes it wouldn't go completely into battery after shooting, an aftermarket recoil rod and non-captured spring solved that.

I decided not to go for Steyr, guys in my other topic had some good points and its still new gun with only few reviews and as it looks - poor support over here (only few shops offers it). Cost of gun and magazines was also factor.

In my research i didnt find some flaws or negative comments about guns, excepts that its more ammo picky, but that wasnt confirmed . I believe its a good gun, but i personally decided for more tested piece
