I have a bunch of 37mm practice M212 once fired hulls and will not be getting a launcher. What are they worth if anything, and is there a demand for them?

That’s a 40mm hull. Back in the day they were sold by the ton. All were surplus once fired cases.

Now a days they need to be de-milled before they are sold. They are basically shredded before they leave the military base.

You can’t buy those surplus anymore. Not sure what they go for these days. Not much. But certain more then they did a decade ago.

Check Gunbroker and see what people are bidding.

If the price is right I might even buy a few more.

Sorry, you guys are right, they are 40mm. Where could I look to find a current market value for them? I’m purging stuff I’ll never use while I can before the wife gets stuck with the duty.

What’s weird is I’ve had these for at least 15 years thinking they were 37mm, I’m sure I ordered them as 37mm, and had I gotten a launcher I’d have been pretty unhappy.

I'd buy one...it would go great with my 40mm Russian marked case

I paid $4 for the Russian one not to long ago, it was an add-on on a milsurp part purchase. Makes for a nice tobacco infused tea candle holder in the reloading room.

After an hour of searching I finally convinced google I was serious about finding some for sale and it graciously allowed me to view the pages I had been denied access to for the last few days. All that hassle and they only get about $2.50 each. Really?

They aren't rare and the market for reloading them is not massive.

I know, for some reason I thought they had a little more value. I don’t remember what I paid when I got them but I’m thinking it was more than that. Oh well, it is what it is.

Please enlighten me.
My understanding is 40mm projectiles are NFA items.
37mm projectiles and hulls are civilian (unless weaponized, eg made over as NFA).
40mm hulls with no projectiles appear iffy to me.

I have no clue about this. I had planned to get a 37 and load for it and somehow ended up with 40 hulls. They are fired and I have no way to load them or launch them so I didn’t really give it any thought about the legality of having fired hulls. I have no projectiles or any other necessary components to load them. I never got the 37 or any components for it either so common sense would indicate there is no foul. Common sense having no place in government or gun laws being what it is, I guess I’ll do some more research.

Yes, But an SOT can make them into training rounds (using a .38sp blank) for sale to authorized agencies.
An SOT with an FEL could presumably make non-training rounds, but would be unlikely to on the plastic training bases.
But, that's going to be a limited market, which is going to suppress the price of pre-owned parts.

That may be the case, but as I only have fired empty hulls on hand, I’m not getting scared yet.

From my understanding you can own 40mm components but not loaded ammunition.

Think of destructive device ammunition like tannerite. You can own the two main components and you can mix them for immediate use. However you cannot store, transport, ship etc mixed tannerite without an explosives license.

From my understanding destructive device ammunition even if it only uses a .38 S&W blank must be stored and treated as an explosive.

So if I wanted to bring my 40mm to the range I would need to transport the .38 S&W blanks separately. Once I’m was ready to fire I could push the blanks into the nylon cases and press the zinc slug into the top and fire.
