I’ve had a 1907 (1908 production) Winchester self-loader for over 6 months and have been doing research on them for longer. I’ve got a factory 5 and 10 round magazine for it but I’ve been reading in old forums that there might have been 15 or 20 round magazines made by the George F. Cake Company. Wondering if anyone has actually seen these or has pictures of them. I’d be very curious to see what the look like. I heard the 20 round magazine was curved and the 15 was straight. Here’s my 1907:

I’ve got a 1907 that I bought from a THR member. It is a super neat gun. Not super practical, but I find something nostalgic about shooting a gun that was used in WWI and that is of an older, yet rugged, design.

Mind came with two 5-rounders.

I have seen several 15 or 20 round mags. that turned out to be 10 round. Personally I have never seen one, although I think it's highly likely that there were some made for law enforcement/gangsters in limited numbers with unknown success. It's difficult enough to top off a 10 round mag. I can't imagine trying to top off a 15 much less a 20.

I just remembered that I saw a cut down .351 that had a snail drum mag. that had been modified from 9mm to the .351. There were 2 on Gunbroker several years ago and after they were sold the seller added a comment that they did not work.

The 10 round magazines were produced by both Winchester and the French Government. The 15 nd 20 round magazines were produced by a company in Dallas Texas called George F. Cake Company. Those are really rare. Rumor has it that the French may have made 15 or 20 round magazines also, but I can't find anything to back that up other than the link below from another forum's poster. It also isn't clear if the French made 401 magazines as they did buy a number of 1910 models in .401 WSL. The 10 round French magazines have the "Etts Dupeyron W-351". A poster in the below link believes that the French made 15 round magazines, but this is the only place I can find that reference.

I don't have any provenance for the below picture other than the site I copied it from ( 1907 Winchester With Thompson Foregrip - Gangsters, Outlaws & Lawmen of the Early 20th Century Forum - MachineGunBoards.com Forums ). But so far, this is the only picture I can find and I'm not sure it is a 15 or 20 round magazine. It is on a Winchester Police Model though.

A little off topic, but that's a dandy looking buck. I'm guessing it out weighed you at that time.

Thanks for this info. As I recall from decades old reading the Police 07's were only made for about two years, starting in 37. I have no idea how many were made. I did see a bayonet/sight sleeve for one on Ebay at least 10 years ago. One our our members, Gordon has a French made 10 round mag. I saw one on ebay recently.

I have the French ten rounder, I thought is was 15 rounder until I tried to put more than ten in it binds after 8 or so ! I have two 5 round factory ones that feed well and one crappy modern replacement. I have two boxes of modern ammo remaining and am going to put them up for sale soon if anyone interested. They are fun, they are rather compact and mine with the factory five round mag seems very reliable 189 grains at 1800 feet per second is not to be sneezed at up to 150 yards.

I am going to put the rifle , ammo and magazines on the for sale forum here and GB next week before it's declared an assault rifle :(

I believe these magazines were made for the French contract guns in WWI. Try Ian McCollum (Forgotten Weapons). He’s an expert on French military arms and may have some info.
