Bought my first firearm today!!

No respectable firearms enthusiast should be without a 10/22.
Well, I was about to welcome you to THR, but it seems you've been here for a spell.

Congratulations! Please share tales of your journey in guns with us....we can all use feel good moments, and 10/22s are fantastic at delivering those.

So great to have new shooters. And you chose a fantastic platform. My only caution is PLEASE be careful. Don’t ever let excitement get in the way of safety. All that excitement can end in the blink of an eye. Teach those girls right. Really happy for you.

Congratulations and welcome to the fraternity! The 1022 is a great rifle for the family to learn to shoot with and learn gun safety. One word of advice, should you choose to buy a larger capacity magazine, stick with a Ruger manufactured magazine, like the BX 25. I've tried many aftermarket mags with varying degrees of success, but the Ruger built ones always work, in my experience. I've had mine since the mid 80s, still shoots well.

While the 25 round mags are fun and I do own one I much prefer to use the 10 round mags. I don’t think your missing out on anything. Congratulations on your purchase, my 10-22 was the first gun I bought back when I bought my farm in 2017. It has been a constant companion since then. Not just a plinker, they are great hunting guns. Mine is stock with the exception of a scope and it has put a lot of meals on the table. Mine is going with me tomorrow on a backpacking snowshoe hare hunt. Enjoy your new purchase, but be vigilant about safety.

Welcome to THR. The 10/22 is nothing to sniff at, a very good first choice. I enjoy mine, a lot. Ruger is an excellent brand.

Congratulations on your "First" firearm. You got me remembering my first gun. A Stevens 410 bore break open shotgun. Working with my dad to earn some cash it took me three weeks to earn the $20 to pay for it. Still think about that gun now and then. I was 15 years old. I'm 73 now. Now I never trade, sell or give away any gun. I have several guns I've had for up to 50 years. To me they are old memories, hunting trips, out plinking with my kids or friends.Just good times.

Sorry. Regardless, stick with Ruger mags. Hopefully someday the law will change there.

I'm picking mine up tomorrow. Just had to add a 10/22 to the growing collection and am looking forward to it.

Boo! Boo! My first gun, at 18, was a Glenfield (Marlin) Model 60.

Just kidding! This is the Ford vs. Chevy of semi-auto .22 rifles. There are good people on both sides, but half of them are wrong.

A good .22 rifle is something you always go back to. You can use it to teach your children good habits, and you never grow too old to have fun with it.

I often go out with ONLY 10r mags for my 10/22..even tho 22LR isn't hard to find and isn't YUGELY expensive..3 25R magazines..even 22LR goes pretty fast..

Good choice- I have owned a 10-22 for over 30 years- and welcome to the 2A team.

Congratulations NuShooter from a fellow prisoner of NJ about 30 minutes north of you. Although I don't own a 10/22 yet (even bought some 22lr a few years ago but the deal fell through), you have made an excellent choice. I would venture to guess we all know how you feel on your first purchase. I clearly remember the anticipation and excitement I had over my first purchase, and the second, and the third.....This is a great site with many knowledgeable people willing to help. Not long after I got my 10/22, and long before they started making high capacity magazines for it, I epoxied two of the magazines together by their bases so I could just flip a loaded one in when I did my magazine change. If something like that interests you then you might want to check out the Alangator website where they make the DUOMAG and TRIMAG couplers that hold 2 and 3 magazines.

Congratulations! This made me think about the Marlin 60 I bought myself way back when; it was my first rifle. Got a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Congratulations and good on you for choosing a .22 for your first. My first was also a .22, way back in 1968, a Stevens Model 34, bolt-action. The Ruger 10/22 can be considered the Barbie Doll of .22s, as it's as customizable as the AR-15 of the centerfire world. Like mine, a 1967 model, but recognizable as a 10/22 only to a discerning eye.

Welcome to the neighborhood! You'll find a LOT of solid knowledge here without a lot of BS. Solid knowledge from the members and mods. Enjoy that 10/22!!
