Ruger PC carbines. Thoughts?

The gun is severely overweight. The fluted bull barrel is a joke on this kind of arm.
... First time I ever saw a Ruger PC Carbine in person was at the LGS. The owner handed it over the counter to me and my first words were; " This is heavier than it looks". But I wound up buying it on the spot and I like it. I guess it is a bit heavy for such a compact little carbine, A bit under 7 lbs. IIRC but it doesn't bother me and I like the way it handles and the way it's all ready to mount whatever you want if you choose not to use the iron sights. The barrel fluting could only be considered cosmetic unless they were trying to lighten it up a few ounces, but I'll admit that I've always thought fluted barrels had a certain "coolness factor" to them and the flutes on this are primarily for looks and to help sell more PC carbines.

According to the Ruger website the fluting is for weight reduction:

  • Cold hammer-forged, chrome-moly steel barrel with ultra-precise rifling provides exceptional accuracy and longevity. The heavy contour barrel provides consistent accuracy, while barrel fluting sheds unnecessary weight and allows for quick handling.

You wont get a HI-Point for $200, unless you find a used one. I'm looking for a .45ACP HI-POINT
carbine, and I havnt found on under $300, new.
I have one in .40 cal, and it shoots anything you can put thru it. I like it.

I also have a Taurus CT-40 PC Cabine in .40 cal, and it will shoot better than me. Taurus big draw back is the mags, it came with 2 10 rounders, and they are unobtainium now, so you have treat them nice.

Yep, Hi-point's low mag capacity is what kills their sales during normal times.
I bought my HP 9mm for a little over $250 but the virus has pushed their price up to full retail and beyond..if you can find one :scrutiny:
Still at treat to shoot with a red dot on a riser, just the low cap mags are a downer.
jmo,
:D

If you are thinking about a Ruger PC Carbine and there is one available...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!

I bought on early 2020 and I absolutely love the thing. Mine is very accurate has been 100% reliable with any ammo I've used (all brass case) and it's setup as a long arm for my wife to use as HD. I use the 12 gage.

Here is a 6 shot group from 50 yards the very first time I shot the rifle. GECO 115gr FMJ. This group is with a 1-4 power scope on it. It was set on 4x. 20200307_123930.jpg

As to the weight of the Ruger PCC
I've read thru this thread and posted about buying this gun in the near future but thought of something that may be contributing to the overall weight of it.
I recently bought some patio furniture that is made of "Poly Wood" (molded plastic) and it is way heavier than comparable furniture made of wood.

Has anyone removed the stock and fore-arm and weighed them?
Is the stock skeletenized or have a foam/porus appearance for weight reduction?
This would show weather the weight of "Poly Wood" is adding to the overall weight more so than a wood stock/fore-arm, um "would".
just askin'

I like mine. I also sent one to my sister via an FFL in Michigan when she mentioned wanting a gun in the house.
Made a 1 minute video for her and the fam on it's operation:

I want that Ruger barrel shroud! Looks good!
You might also want to check out Midwest Industries. Theirs come in full-length or a slightly shortened one, like this:

I think Ruger's is different. I'm not really impressed with Midwest Industries. I have one of their handguards on my M92 AK Pistol and it seems overly complex / heavy for what it is.

Like mine, I put a Holosun 510 (got the Holsun on sale for a little over $220) on it and a slip on recoil pad. (old and bony not much padding anymore;))
I don't own a Glock but I put the Glock adapter in it as Glock mags are 1/2 the price of Ruger mags and seem to work fine. (IN Ca I can only have 10 round mags so I want to have a few...)

I am a lefty but also put the charger on the left, as I have set up my Beretta CX4 as well. It just feels more natural to me. Glad Ruger made it mostly ambidextrous.

It is pretty heavy for what it is, dramatically more so than the CX4 (which is also considerably shorter, and underrated by many I think, but that's another subject).

But the weight and increased sight radius make it easy to shoot and hold on target, and the sight picture with the factory peeps is fast and easy to acquire, whereas you have to crouch down into the CX4 more. The weight also helps to damp the recoil from the heavy bolt, which can come as a surprise if you have never shot a blowback carbine. CX4 and HiPoint are the same way.

I like PC Carbine a lot. Would love another in .45, but at this point I'm skeptical that will happen. Also good would be for Ruger to make a magwell insert that fit Beretta 92 magazines. Glock mags are expensive to get around where I am, Berettas slightly less so.

Have you looked up mag pul mags for the glock? thats what i run in my PC9. They start about 12 bucks.

Well that's a lot better than the $40 Ruger wants for their 10 round magazines, but not sure if I would swap in the Glock magwell just for that. Maybe if I shot it a lot more than I do. I appreciate the tip, though.

So, can the Ruger have a charging handle on both sides like can be done with the Beretta?
