Happy with a DAO SP101

I want to assure you all that it took boxes and boxes of ammo for me to get proficient with my new ccw. Shooting a snub doesn't come naturally. Eventually it made me a better pistol shot.

I can connect to this. I went through a period when I was most comfortable carrying a snub. As a result I put thousands of rounds through airweights, model 60s, and sp101s. Before the practice I was content to think some guns had trigger's that just weren't good enough to shoot well or that could never fit my hand. After figuring how to shoot j-frames in double action consistently, I learned I could get almost any gun I would own to shoot well enough, though I of course still have my preferences. Also learned that an initial impression of a trigger or grip might not correspond to actual results. E.g. this sp has a relatively heavy trigger, but I shoot it better than most other snubs I've owned, and my Glock 30 has a grip much to wide for my hands but I shoot it better than most other polymer carry guns I've owned ...

I've owned two SP101's... still have the 327 magnum, as a matter of fact.

Both have/had unsuitably stiff DA triggers. (It's a sample size of two, I know.)

I want to like them. They have good heft and I like the way they look.

If I ever run into a 2.5" 357 with a good trigger for a good price I will buy it.

My wife wanted a small .38special revolver for carry and so we went to the local gun shop where she picked up the DAO SP101 and after cycling it with a cylinder of snap caps fell in love and bought it after I explained that she could shoot both .38sp and .357mag. I wanted something similar and came across a like new Factory DAO 3” GP100 that was imported from the Canadian Mounted Police via CAI. Of all the rounds I’ve put through it, the 180gr. Hornady XTP shoots closest to point of aim at 25 yards. Though the trigger was good it needed some smoothing out. So I did a trigger job and bead blasted the gun.

That is one cool looking GP100........makes me want to have my 4” cut down and converted to DAO!
