Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

Just came back. Good hog and great deer you got. Still wish for some kinds of targets to test bullets on. I have a 41, some 45s, and some 50s I'd like to try on pigs. This Desert Eagle keeps calling to me. And Happy New Year. Be Well, Packy.

The last couple of years I have been itching to do some hog hunting. Just haven't been able to make it work yet. We are in mid Ohio and the hogs are not this far north yet.

Still blood in the trap from the 6 Tuesday, so they never made it in last night but they know the corn is there.

Looks like a Republican, Democrat and Independent Buzzard (off to side) in this Vid.

Repub and Dem fighting (of course) and the independent just watching.

NONE of them doing their job! Sigh............

Yeh but the 2 fighting give up pretty quickly and just stand around puffing at each other.
Ain't none of 'em eating,
.

I would like to have some of the personal sized footballs. About April 15th. Dig a big hole and a big oak fire. place corrugaed steel on the coals and a piece over the pigs. Cover with dirt and see me in the morning. T'would be sooooo sweet. Be Well, Packy.

Added another one (boar) to the bone pile tonight. Shot him about 8:00 p.m. had him on the bone pile (about a mile away) by 8:45.

I still have a game cam on the other hog that was put out....so I'll just leave it in place and see what happens to this one.

Shot this one with the 7mm-08 and like the last one I shot with that rifle, there was not an exit, so I might try to recover that bullet.

This hog had a 'shield' about 1-1/2" thick and the bullet was already expanding by the time it made it through that. The entry wound was about as large as a quarter.

Didn't weigh this Boar but he would go about 200 lbs.

Always amazed at how tough their hides/hair can be. I didn't feel like lifting this hog....so I just skidded him down to the bone pile which is a bit over a mile away. Gravel road the entire way. Only the hair is gone from the hide. The hide itself not really damaged at all.

Wasn't sure it was going to happen. I had this boar showing up pretty regularly at the feeder between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. for the past few evenings.

There was a light rain falling as I prepared to go to the stand....but the forecast was for it to blow out later on, so I didn't mind getting a little wet walking in.

Got on stand about 5 O'Clock, feeder went off at 5:15. A few minutes later...Nine Does (deer) showed up and started eating the corn. The rain picked up and I thought they would probably go bed down someplace until the rain let up, but nope. They didn't seem to mind and kept on eating.

I was a bit worried they would eat all the corn before the boar showed up. It's usually the other way around (pigs eat all the corn and leave none for the deer) so the irony of it all struck me as funny.

Right about dark the deer left, the rain let up some but a fog started rolling in. At one point I could barely see the feeder (100 yds. away) and the hog lights reflecting off the fog made a blinding curtain when viewed through my binoculars.

I knew the fog would eventually blow out with the approaching cool front but didn't know if it would happen before the hog showed up?

Fortunately, the boar didn't show until 8:00 p.m. and by that time it was clear again. A single raccoon had come in, climbed the feeder and starting spinning out corn.

Normally, this would be something you DON'T want....but in this case it was to my benefit. The Coon climbed down and was starting to eat his prize when he suddenly spun around and bowed his back up.

I assumed it was another raccoon coming into the feeder but as I watched through the binoculars the boar appeared under the lights from out of the darkness.

He started eating the corn straight away. Good thing he was already broadside to me...since there wasn't enough corn on the ground to keep him there very long. Shot was an easy one and I was done for the evening.....save for dragging him off.
