A very touching story. I've sitting on my couch, watching the dancing flames in the fireplace. It's raining now, I can hear the gentle rain on the the roof. Early morning, still dark outside. Beside the rain the only other sound is my rooster crowing in the distance. He hears me when I get up and make my morning cup of tea. The desert has been been very dry for a very long time, the rain is God's blessing to all living things.
Your daughter and her life were both a gift and a blessing. Your memory of her will always remain in your heart and mind. Painful things happen in life, things we will never understand, but we must accept. There is a plan for each of us. Your daughter is with Jesus. You will see her soon.
Please allow me to make a suggestion. Wait a while, give it some time. You may consider holding on to the model #10. You have many wonderful memories of her, the #10 and times spent with her target shooting. With time and when your ready you could build tribute to her, consisting of the revolver, some photographs and some other personal momentos. You could create a box of "memories". Something that will be treasured in the years to come. Peace be with you brother.

hunt with a FA83. Walk around with an M-10.
Most Sunday mornings, I leave the house to walk about the back 40; which is an oval shaped block of land and swamp about 2 miles wide and a little over 4 long. This past Sunday morning, no different. It was very frosty with a touch of wet snow on the ground. Sat in my deer chair with sun rising over my right shoulder, very slight breeze on my face. Out of the hedge comes a small deer, galloping across haylot in front of me. Deer runs in front of me back into corner of woods. 150 yds behind deer, out of woods is a trotting feral dog. A about 25 yds out the M10 speaks, feral beast rolls over.
Saturday morning after July 4, my son and his fiancée were planning to visit for dinner. Raspberry chicken on the grill salad and strawberry shortcake for dinner. just after daylight mr big turkey and a gathering of nuggets were at edge of strawberry patch. M10 Expresses concern about that, nuggets are off in a flurry, raspberry turkey and strawberry shortcake for dinner.
A few years ago, helping a neighbor with a fence, it was deer season. Nice little Buck strolls out from some scrub apples and stands broadside at about 20 yds. Deer just stood there. Very careful aim at side of head M-10 filled Buck tag for the season.

I know some of my experiences may have stretched the game rules.

What game has your M-10 harvested ?

I carry a Model 10 constantly around the place here, but shoot deer and hogs with either a .44 Special or 45 Colt. That said, with handloads using a heavy cast SWC or SWCHP, I'd shoot a deer for sure.

Two questions for you:
1) What load did you use for the deer?
2) What part of the world do you live in where you can shoot turkey on July 4? Our turkey seasons coincide with deer season and then run from the first of April through the middle of May.

35W:
#1. I wouldn't call it so much of a "deer load", more like a load I used for deer.
145 gr TCFP, approx 6 gr Silohoutte, Rem 1 1/2 primer - 920 fps from the M10.
The flat point works almost as well as an LBT design.

#2. Live in a State of Euphoria - defending my garden against rogue intruders,
Some got acute Pb poisoning.

i learned to shoot a handgun in a civilian federal agency using a g.i. s&w 10. i own s&w and taurus five shot j frames but never the six shot k frame.

tinman357 may you have god’s comfort. i respectfully propose that you keep and use your daughter’s favorite sw 10 as long as you walk the earth in her dear memory, then will it to someone who has done you a good turn. she will be happy knowing that it is protecting you and then the one who helped you, and not rusting away forgotten in some icey underwater grave.

Its almost un-American to not own a Smith & Wesson model 10. I have two right now. A 6" barreled gun and my mothers heavy barrel nickle plated model 10 she wore while working at the Sheriffs Office. I need a skinny 4" barreled gun. I had a RHKP I stupidly sold back when another model 10 was just $150 bucks away.

But any fixed sight 38 Special is a gun everyone should own. A Colt Officers model, A Ruger Service Six or the often forgotten Taurus model 82. I have owned 3 of those and they were some of the best service type guns I have ever owned. And they are a little heavier built than the model 10.

Owning a model 10 is a rite of passage. Its sort of like needing to own at least one lever action 30-30 and a bolt action 30-06, a pump 12 gauge and a 22 rifle of some sort. Throw in a 22 caliber handgun and you have a well rounded gun collection. At least the beginning of one.

I have three Model 10’s. A 10-8, a birth year 10-6, and a pre Model 10 from 1946 that just lettered to the NYPD. Also have a Service Six. Great guns, all.

Hahahaha! Up-armored opossums! Thats too funny. I have yet to see one north of the Kaw river, but they are increasing in populace south just a ways. Had one sneak up on me at night while "poppin a squat" about an hour south in Toronto (Kansas)

'Possum on the half shell or as old timers called it poor man's pork. I've heard its tasty but I've not tried it.

Back in the day the Game and Fish Comission had a BBQ for some big shots. They were supposed to have wild pork, but they could not locate any so they rounded up some possum on the half shell and served them up. No one ever knew the difference.

A rabbit with my first revolver, a S&W m&p pre model 10. Model 1905 4th change circa 1916.
Was with a lead 158gr round nose from about 10 yards, and i was surprised i hit it because i was just a kid and had barely ever fired it.
