The bolt on my 541 came out easily. Putting it back in is another story...

It was cooperative until the halfway point, then something caught, and it stopped moving. It spins freely, but no amount of fidgeting, figgling, or finessing will move it.

Liberal use of obscenities has also proven ineffective.

I would really appreciate any guidance the forum's collective wisdom could provide.

Thanks!

Two things:
Is the bolt head rotate to the correct position?

Try pushing the safety forward is you ease the bolt into place.

Todd.

Thanks for your reply, and willingness to help.

I was pushing the safety forward when it got stuck... the bolt just stopped moving forward halfway through insertion. It is as if it is locked in place. Unfortunately, I can't tell if the bolt head is in the right position, as the bolt got stuck before the bolt head got to the chamber. The bolt has always been finicky, but this has never happened.

Thanks again

Let me play with mine and see if I can duplicate your issue - or at least get near to it.

Can you post a photo to show the position that it is stuck at relative to the receiver? Be sure to also show the bolt handle.

Todd.

Are you able to rotate your bolt handle upwards from the position in the second photo?

My bolt will click to a stop at exactly that position if the bolt handle is stated down like your photo shows.

I'm not sure why your safety isn't doing it but if you look on the bottom of the trigger housing, at the bottom forward part, you'll see a brass pin that the safety pushes downward when the safety is pushed forward.

You should be able to move that in a downward position manually to free the bolt.

Here, it's the stepped cylinder protruding upward through the trigger housing. Pull it downward as the safety is supposed to be doing.

Thanks

The cylinder in question is doing its job - at least partially. It moves in the proper direction. Unfortunately, the bolt is still stuck on something.

I'll remove the trigger group later tonight and see if that helps.

Be VERY carful removing the trigger on a 541, the stud that holds it, is VERY easy to break, and should be supported from the opposite, when you are pushing the pin out of it!! (trigger)

Not yet... the bolt is still stuck.

I'm taking the rifle to a gunsmith on Saturday... I don't want to risk breaking something by fumbling around with the trigger.
Did it work?

And just like that... I was able to fiddle with the handle a bit more and remove the bolt.

After I got it out, the instructions in the video you posted made re-insertion easy (relatively). Removing that bolt isn't something I'll be making a habit of!

Thanks - to you, and to all who offered assistance!
