I had a thought of maybe selling one of the ar15s to cover other hobby related expenses. I have a budget PSA mid length carbine i paid about $350 for. Its never been fired. It doesn't have any rear site installed.
What is something like that going for these days on GB or similar?
Pro:
It would be nice to have some extra cash and room in the safe too. I have others that I do use.
Con:
I've regretted several other sales plus the hassle of actually listing & selling it legally. Likely never replace it at that price or it could be restricted in the future.

Thoughts?

If you need the money, sell it. Maybe do a FTF sale on this site for less hassle.

But, since you mentioned your regret at selling before (I bolded above), you might want to spend more time mulling this over. I've regretted a few.

Keep it.

It's a lower priced firearm in that the selling fees, shipping fees, and state dependent ffl fees will eat into the price enough it may let regret creep in easier.

Now local consignment and you may be all good

Sold one of the cheaper PSA’s I bought years ago. I may have shot it when I got it, don’t remember. Someone my son knew just had to have an AR. I offered it at 4-5x what I paid for it to shut’em up. They went to their bank and came back with the cash. Apparently, the sky is the limit right now.

If you have others, sell it. No regrets, get something you'll love.
Don't sell it to a gun store, they'll give you a fraction of the value . I see you're in the Chicago suburbs, should be easy to find a buyer. I avoid armslist like the plague - it's a price gougers extravaganza on there.
For Illinois sale to be legal, go to the state police web site and there will be an area to enter the buyers foid #, that will give you the ok to sell privately to that person. Record the reference # they give you for that foid # check on the sales receipt as proof that you checked the buyer for ability to purchase, then make them wait 24 hours. Not a big deal, I've sold a few over the years and it's been ok. Now's a good time to sell, prices are high. Then keep the $ until things come back to normal and get yourself something nice.
Good luck

If I had an extra AR I'd be selling right now. With the prices where they are I could make double or triple my money on the right one and still be doing someone a favor. I also have no love for ARs, they are a tool and sometimes tools make money.

Where would you look for a buyer? List on GB? Armslist? What are the fees associated with those sites?
I'm still on the fence, probably wont do anything but if I somehow found a local buyer I might do it.

Not for 5.56 AR15! I sold a few since October, AR in 5.56 has price increase maybe 30% but folks remember the price before COVID and not going to pay if you expect more. AR10 has much better price right now while not as many as 5.56 AR15 out there. I think the price will go back down in a few months. Sell what you don't need but don't expect to make much out of it. I don't think there is another AWB soon!

AK price went crazy!

By the way, I don't think PSA ever had $350 complete AR! Another vendor had, PSA went sub $400, but above $380, at one time.

It's good to keep for bartering later on if nothing else. I think in the future you'll need bartering fodder before whatever you wanted to get with the dollars you got from an AR.

When they hit $1500 for basic ones I’ll let a couple go. Looks like we’re about $900 locally. “Last time” the basic ones got up to 1200 easy with some busting 1500.

I will not sell any of my ARs. They are set up the way I want them and are effective. I did sell my only AK last week to a gun shop owner. I made a small profit. I do not need an AK.

I got one (and a bunch of mags and a bunch of ammo with a few cheapo accessories) in a trade off a local WTS page, flipped it the next day and kept most of the mags and all the ammo and bought the rifle I wanted with a little extra cash in my pocket.

I woulda done it again in a heartbeat. I'd suggest selling it on a local page and meet face to face. No fees, or shipping to deal with.

You're right, they weren't complete rifles. It was complete upper $230, complete lower $120. No mag, no rear optic.

Eta- ya know, coulda been 220/130...

220, 221- whatever it takes.

What are some free sites that allow firearms listings? Like, for example, craigslist wont allow arms sales. Does FB market allow them?

I'm not sure she you're at, but I'd be willing to bet there's some local shooting forum or another. If you Google " _____ state armslist alternative" I'd bet you'd find something.

Armslist has recently gone "pay to play" so they get no more of my business.

We've got gunsarizona.com, backpagegun.com and there's arizonashooting.org. probably a few others too.

I doubt you’ll be able to replace it for a reasonable price any time soon. Guess it really depends on how much you enjoy the other hobby that you are wanting to fund. Personally, I’d probably hang onto it, but I’ve been on a black rifle buying spree recently

I’ve used gunlistings.org, it’s getting more popular since armslist started charging. You just have to put you phone # or email in the ad since their email reply system doesn’t work. I usually spell out a couple numbers of my phone number and haven’t received any spam calls or texts.
