Don't understand the 9mm 1911.

I have one 1911 in 9mm a Ruger lightweight CMD.
I also have a 45 acp version and prefer it, but the 9mm shoots well and is an acceptable 2nd option.

A 9mm 1911 is much easier to control, cheaper to feed, etc. Most companies have figured out how to make them reliable years ago. Ramped barrels, spacer in the mag, etc. I've got a '74 Colt Combat Commander 9mm, got it for $350 several years ago and it still shoots great with its original mags.. 2011s sort of killed 1911s for me, but I'd rather shoot a 9mm 1911 than my 9mm Glocks. :)

When I think about a 1911 in 9mm I just go get my Hi-Power as it scratches that itch well enough for me.

Nothing against a 1911 in 9mm. If I did it thought I would want one on par with a custom Hi-Power for it to make sense to me as I have that option already.

If / when a 10 round mag limit comes by again, lots of people may (like the last mag ban) go for larger calibers, hey if you can only have 10 rds, why not make a bigger hole? :)

Anyway, I have a Springfield 9mm/.38 super (2 bbls) "loaded target" with fully supported / ramped barrels which both calibers (spacers in the rear of the 9mm mags) are supremely reliable. It has modern controls (meaning everything Colt dragged their feet on over the years) and I would have no problem with it were it my only handgun. Too small for the big platform? I don't think so.

This.

You beat me to it. And an Astra A70 fills my need for a compact version.

I use a railed 9mm 1911 government size and find the weight and caliber keep the recoil down so coupled with an easily customized trigger pull, it is quicker for me. I also find a 1911 with a short trigger fits my hands better than a double stack DA or striker fired pistol.

I prefer the emp or likewise built to shoot 9mm in a 1911ish setup, myself. commander size i get also for a 9mm.

too many other great pistols for 9mm. so many good choices.

for a 1911 govt size, .45acp and .38 super is good enough for me.

If the 9x19 is too anemic for the 1911, then how about the 22LR?

I like about anything 1911. I have at least one chambered in the following cartridges: 22LR, 9x19, 357 Sig, 38/45 Clerke, 38 Super, 38 Special, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP.

10mm is probably on the horizon once the shortages go away. I already have a 10mm, but it is a S&W 610 revolver. (moon clips rule!)

I'm quite comfortable working on 1911's.

I do have a full size 9x19 1911 as well as a lightweight Commander. The light weight Commander is lighter and more pleasant to carry than the full size. Besides, having a 9x19 1911, I have options to keep shooting a 1911 when ammunition is in short supply.

For competition or a target pistol it can make sense.

For personal defense or lawman carry? Insanely stupid and borderline ridiculous. The .45 automatic has enough knock down power for the job. The 9mm has failed countless times.

According to who? You? Pardon us if we don't believe the same thing.

Antiquated thinking. Promoting the knockdown power myth?

I did not realize that the 45 was magic. Apparently no one told this bad guy that the 45 was magic:

And you think the “Little 9” would have faired better? A single stack 9mm such as a 1911 makes even less sense. I could think of few worse handguns for a lawman or civilian defender than a 9mm single stack 1911. At least with the Block you’ve got a bucket of bullets (because you’ll need them). Sounds like that officer needed some time on the range, or would have been better served with the crisp match trigger of a properly fitted M1911 to actually be able to place the shots in the T zone instead of the horrible Block trigger.

Cooper considered the .45 ACP M1911 the greatest fighting handgun in human history.

His word means more than anyone on the net.

You're living in a fantasy world.

I think the Commander in .38 Super with a 9mm. barrel assembly is the best of both worlds. High power performance from the .38 Super with less expensive (well it use to be), ammo for practice with the 9mm. Both are fun to shoot and capable of some very decent accuracy in a gun that's lightweight and easy to carry.

I have a few Hi-Powers too, you should see if you can play with an SV, not a lot like them out there.

Why when the platform offers .45ACP, 10mm, 40S&W and America's answer to the punybellum the .38Super, just don't get it.:scrutiny:
If you asked why 1911 while so many good platforms for 9mm, I would say because I want a 1911 but I don't want to add another caliber. I have two 9mm 1911s. I also bought a 45ACP 1911 after I got my 9mm 1911s but I still shot my 9mm 1911 much more, affordable and less recoil.

I'm a big fan of the 1911 in 45acp.
I think if you want one in 9 go for it but 9mm shines in double stack handguns while the 45 was made for single stack mags.
More rounds Vs. bigger holes

You must have had some nice work done on your trigger. I've shot a few hi powers with trigger work done and even then, it's no 1911. I like my BHP fine I guess, indifferent trigger, odd weight during recoil, hammer bite and all.

But it's no 1911, and didn't hold a candle to my DW Valkyrie CCO in accuracy, speed or ease of carry. Cost the same too.

I suppose I could dump another K into a trigger and add a beaver tail and a ring hammer.

But I'd rather just shoot my EDC X9 instead, ammo prices today it'll cost the same :)

People seem to like the 1911 in various calibers, but to me a 1911 in anything but 45 or possibly 38 super is "troubling". To each his own, though.
