I’ve been busy with a lot of things since fall, and at that time primers were non-existent, but you could still find brass for just about everything if you looked around. Now that all my projects are finished, I’ve got the urge to start loading and shooting again. I’ve got plenty primers and powder, and cast bullets are still available, but brass for .357 Mag is unobtanium as some like to say. What’s the deal? Every other caliber seems to at least be available even if it is more expensive. I spent all morning looking online for some new brass, but there was NONE available; neither new, once fired, nor range brass.

I still have about 300 new cases, and I suppose that loading cast bullets will lengthen the case life, but it still seems odd that every other caliber of brass seems to be available, but there is absolutely no .357 Mag.

357 range or once fired brass has always been spotty to me- feast or famine so to speak.
I once had to wait 6 months on a Midway order because of the Remington 500 count box of 357 nickel cases. They eventually came in.
Most of what I get is in the form of a brass to brass trade. You might try that if you have any surplus brass laying around.
Good thing is your have 300 cases to work with!
Good luck

I just picked up 500 once fired this week. You have to be persistent in searching. Same place I have done business with before and they have been out. I looked first thing in the am and they had it listed. Sold out in short order.

I guess I’ll gather a little at a time. .38 Special seems to be readily available though. I may just buy up some of that in the meantime.

I actually shoot more .357 from my Henry than I do from my revolvers. .38 Special does great but it requires a good scrub after shooting or my .357 cases get sticky. I had my first .357 case head separation shooting .357 after .38 without cleaning. One of the most accurate loads I have shot from the Henry is a 158 gr cast RNFP .38 special with 10 gr IMR 4227. Nickel sized groups at 50 yards with virtually no recoil. I suppose I could load the same in .357 Mag cases virtually indefinitely. I think the cases would last forever that way.

Yep, if you get an alert, you'd better act quickly

I do a lot of range brass went threw close to a ton of it since early fall. 38 & 357 is rare from range pick ups.
Semi auto cases are way more common, 1st up is 9mm followed by 40cal & 45acp then 380auto.
I do have a small amount of 5.7x28.
I just tumbled a couple hundred mixed 38spl & 357 mag.
Not sure what the count is of each. If any of you guys want it 10 cents a case & shipping. I can get a actual count on how many cases are there.

Just checked there is 395 cases.

I think a .357 mag is in my future... or maybe a .44 mag! I’ll make a thread

Of course, had to buy a Coonan so I have the thrill of searching for .357 thrown from it now. I do silly things at times...........
Nothing like a dedicated brass chaser.

If you really like chasing it buy a Mini 14, my Mini tends to try to throw it into the next county and I live in a big county:D

My M1 carbine likes to throw them anywhere from at my feet to 30 feet away and anywhere from directly forward to straight behind me and anywhere in between. The Henry drops them in a neat pile at my feet.

The fouling left behind from the shorter .38 case interferes with the longer case of the .357. Shoot the .357's first followed up by the .38.

I've never found pick up brass in .357. All that I have I fired from new ammo myself, except for 1 bag of 100 pcs I bought a few years ago.
