Now my problem is I don't have a pistol to leave in the truck. It wouldn't have been the end of the world if the P94 got stolen!

I used to keep a handgun in my truck in a small slim “unbadged” gun bag / tote and remove it every night and take it with me each morning. The bag looked like a nylon bound zippered book cover. This way I could also use it in my car or my bike saddlebags.

By the way, we will need to see some pictures of your new acquistion. ;):D

" Traded a Ruger P94 for a nickel, pinned barrel S&W M36! "

That is a solid 9 on a scale of 10 for lopsided and advantageous trades.
Unfortunately --- You are subject to a 2 point deduction for not providing a picture of the Model 36. Failure to do so in these circumstances constitutes a direct violation of The High Road Standards of Propriety And Decency.

I usually don't trade or sell guns but I never liked that P94. I really don't like any DA/SA pistol. A girlfriend of mine needed something with a larger capacity and less recoil than the little M36 so we traded. I told her the Smith was worth more than my Ruger but we each got the pistol we wanted/needed.

About 3 years ago, I bought a NIB S&W M&P9 fullsize for $399+ $5 NICS & tax = $428.24 OTD. I traded the LNIB M&P9 for a complete AR10 lower and a used S&W Shield9. Last year a fellow on another forum I frequent was looking for a Shield9 after things got really tight and was willing to trade 1500 rounds of mixed .223/5.56 for the Shield9. I ended up selling the 1500 rounds of ammo for $775 and still have the AR10 lower, so I more or less doubled my money on the M&P9.

My best trade was an old Beretta 84 that had a crack in the feed ramp, it still worked. I traded the 84 for a brand new in the box Model 29-3 6”. The trade was with a LGS.

Nice trade, the S&W is truly a more valuable snd sought after firearm .

But (there usually is one with any trade) if you don’t already have one and choose to carry the Model 36 the nickel plated, wafer-thin front sight and the bright nickel rear sight channel make any sort of accuracy beyond a few yards tough to accomplish. Same goes for the original grips; they look great but the thin profiles aren’t very good when shooting. (All my snubs wear more hand-filling grips.)

It’ll take lots of practice getting used to the 36, firing in different light to see how you shoot it. I have a no-dash nickel Model 49 and I love the look and the panache of the marque. Unfortunately the sights are practically useless compared to my other small-frame .38 snub revolvers (newer 642 Smith, Ruger SP101, new Colt Cobra.)

Again, you made a great trade and I would’ve done it myself without a moments hesitation :). Just be prepared that you may be a little bit frustrated with your shooting until you get that nickel Model 36 sight picture down pat.

Stay safe.

I used a sccy as a "truck pistol". Of course before I bought the gun, I bought a lockbox, aircraft cables, locks, and had a hidden compartment.

Good trade!

Same here. New car doesn't' have the same space as the old one under the seat so I had to go into the dash. Decided I like it better once I cleaned up the mountings and deburred the opening. Scratched the crap out of an A-O/Thompson "1911A1" first time I put it in the lock. No big loss but it was a nasty surprise. Gun still worked fine when I traded it off.

Riomouse, I agree with the sights and I have a blued 36 already so have experience with the platform. I will deal with the sights just like I did with my stainless SP101. I will black KG Gunkote the front sight and the rear sight channel.

Made my best trade ever yesterday. Traded a Ruger P94 for a nickel, pinned barrel S&W M36!
So then, you traded what in its field is a pretty decent gun for what in its respective field is an outstanding gun.

I hope the other guy is as happy as you should be.

As to leaving in the truck.....

Yeah, I used to do that from time to time until the truck was stolen.

Todd.

View attachment 976420Need to remove the trigger shoe and eventually put factory wood grips on.

publiuss,
I am curious. Does that shoe stick out past the edges of the trigger guard?
I was looking at my model 36 yesterday and doing some dry firing with Snap Caps and was thinking a trigger shoe might help my trigger pull, but I wouldn't want to add one if the shoe makes the trigger stick out from the sides of the trigger guard.
