Hi, I recently ordered myself a surplus Beretta M1951 single-stack, full-size 9mm pistol. It hasn't arrived yet, but I am looking around for a holster and not having much luck. I'd like a basic OWB holster with or without a spare mag pouch but I am open to anything. The gun is noticeably thinner than a 92, but if if anyone knows of another gun comparable in size to the M1951 that would be helpful as well. Thanks!

If your looking for a model specific holster you may be either striking out or paying through the nose. I would expect that a pretty fair number of “generic” holsters would work for you. Just pull the basic dimensions from an internet source or wait til you have your gun to measure and then see what is listed by the really cheap guys like Uncle Mikes or Allen and go from there. You might even figure out that something popular is compatible and then your options open up a whole bunch.

Thanks, I’d like to have the holster when the gun arrives so I am looking to order one in advance. I imagine that most military- or field-style holsters would work just fine, especially if originally made for a full-size, single-stack pistols. Anyone have any in particular to recommend?

I doubt you will be able to find a custom fit holster for the M1951. I think a M12 holster that was used by US military for the Beretta M9 would be a decent fit.

FWIW, I have messed around with various online resources and done a little digging. The M1951 slide is just over 1" wide so substantially slimmer than it's Model 92 descendants. Oddly enough the closest I have found in terms of dimension among common modern designs is the Glock 17. Obviously the details are different and a kydex holster would not work, but leather or nylon holsters that fit multiple pistols including the Glock 17 should work for the M1951. At least, that's the theory. ;-)

Thanks, but I figured if I was going to go surplus I should go Italian so I ordered this Italian Carabinieri set, belt/holster/pouch for $27 including air mail from the UK (Sportsman's Guide used to have the same ones but they are out of stock). The set may take a while to get here, but I'll be sure to provide some feedback once I get it.

Got my M1951 today, haven't shot it yet, but here are some pics before and after cleaning it up with just Ballistol and elbow grease. The holster has not yet arrived.

Note that the the factory markings do not say Modello 1951, that is actually on the very discreet import mark on the bottom of the slide. I had seen the mark by the takedown lever in other pics and thought it was a wear mark, in fact it says "disassembly" in Italian in a curve with a little arrow. ;-)

I wouldn't be surprised if it fit a 1911 holster fairly well. Find a buddy with one or buy a cheapie and see if it will fit.

My son and I put about 50 rounds through the pistol yesterday with no issues. The pistol functions well with all three magazines (issued mag and two extras, also Beretta-made) using cheap aluminum-cased CCI Blazer 9mm FMJ and one mag of PMC Bronze JHP, all 115 gr. Accuracy was just OK but I suspect that has more to do with our shooting than the gun.

The push-button safety takes some getting used to but it's not bad. I have ordinary-sized hands and am right-handed and I can put it on safe with my trigger finger and pop it over to fire with the knuckle of my thumb. It's nice that it's a hammer-block only so you can actually cycle the gun to remove a chambered round with the safety still on. There is also a half-cock notch that also up trigger so you have to manually cock the hammer to fire.

I think if I were to carry this gun the condition I used would depend on the holster. With a flap holster or a thumb-break/security strap that could go under the hammer, cocked and locked like a 1911 with a round in the chamber would be fine. With an open holster or IWB I would probably not be comfortable doing that and I would use the half-cock notch with a round in the chamber. This is what is says in the old Beretta manual I found online here.
Safety catch :
The safety catch has been designed to function only with loaded hammer, it blocks at the same time the hammer and the sear lever. Pushing the button of the catch from right to left the catch will engage the two devices, pushing from the left to the right, they will be disengaged at the same moment. This device has been studied to allow maximum speed to obtain the firing position, i. e., by simply pushing the button with the thumb of the hand holding the weapon. The location of the button is such that, an involuntary passage from the safe to the firing position is practically impossible.
With the weapon not in ready position the safety catch need not be engaged as the percussion pin is completely blocked and kept in this position by its spring without extruding into -the breech: with a round in the barrel the weapon could not fire even if the hammer should be pulled by accident

Anybody know where to get M1951 grip screws or if they are the same as those used on any other Beretta model or any other gun? I boogered up one of mine because my screwdriver wasn’t fine enough so I’d like to replace both of them. Thanks!

The surplus Carabinieri holster, belt, and pouch arrived today. Heavy polyester cloth construction, very rugged and durable, and a sort of muted spruce or copper green color, not olive. There are a few stains but it should all clean up OK, can’t complain for $27 delivered.

Not surprisingly, the holster seems to fit the M1951 just fine, though clearly the pouch was never intended for spare magazines. If I messed up how the wire hangers are supposed to be installed in the belt, please let me know.

For a fun indoor project buy some Kydex plastic and try forming a holster. I made one to keep the Beretta accessible while I'm driving.
Happy to see you bought the nice alloy version. Thumb knuckle is easy to use to take it off safe. Love how easy the magazines are to load.

I got ya. Here's a IWB kydex holster in case anyone was interested.
