Anyone use th 9.3 for hunting here in the lower 48? I have a CZ 550 FS in the 9.3x62 that I have taken 2 whitetail bucks with. I have observed that when hit with this caliber they still run before collapsing but leave copious blood trails. The thing I like best is that the meat loss is minimal. Eat right up to the hole as they say. Some might say I am over gunned, but there is only one degree of dead.

The 9.3x62 has become more popular here in Sweden with the increase in the boar population. In the not to distant past you could hardly give one away. Loaded ammo and reloading components for the 9.3x62 are readily available here. I nearly bought a 9.3x62 barrel for my Mauser M03 but realized the boar would not be any deader than when shot with the .308.

I have a VZ-24 in 9.3x62mm Mauser. It is push recoil, not a kick. The 270 grain Speer HotCor and 286 grain Hornady Interlocks print at practically the same place @100 yards, and in a pinch the cases can be made from 35 Whelen brass. I have not hunted with it but I expect I will. Loaded with Varget, the Speer’s averaged 2440 fps muzzle velocity. The Hornady’s weren’t too far behind.

A 9.3x62 dethroned my .375 H&H as "light carry" rifle. Shorter, lighter, handier, and kills things dead just as well...

I installed a peep sight and a fiber optic front, it makes for very fast sighting. With Barnes TSX, this rifle has taken a bit of everything, from oribi to Cape buffalo. Buffalo can't tell the difference between the 9.3 and a .375... An outstanding all-around caliber.

286, Federal. A load I wish I could get is the Woodleigh Hydro from Federal: with these, you don't need to ask yourself "Solid or soft?", they punch straight through everything, and leave friggin' big holes in soft tissues.
