I had had my heart set more on a python but looking at at least 1900 for that versus exactly half that for the 4-in Target colt king cobra.
I have the 3-inch Colt King Cobra and find the trigger delightful.

As you probably noticed I have posts where I was pitting the Colt Python 2020 against both the 1950's Smith & Wesson 357 Magnum and the 27-2 as well as the eight shot 627s.
I'm involved in two auctions that end today.
And now I've also added the 4-in target king cobra back to the list as it is half the price of a python and 3-500 less than the Smith & Wesson's.

Thoughts and experience?

I think you should buy what you want. If it's the more expensive gun and you can afford it, go for it. If you cant afford it, you should wait until you can and still get what you want and not settle. The last thing you should do is not get what you really want based on the advice from a bunch of strangers on the internet.

I say be patient and get the Python you want. Seems like you really want the Python, but you have money burning in your pocket and are will to settle for something else just to have it RIGHT NOW...

It's out of stock now, but I seen the Python selling for $1400 just two days ago. I will see if I can find another one around that price. It's crabs in a barrel trying to buy on GunBroker. You'll end up paying more than what online venders would sell it for.

If you already have a new King Cobra in 3” I can’t see getting the 4”... is it worth $1,000 to just upgrade to an adjustable rear sight and a smidgen longer barrel?

LGS / range had a 6” Python at $1,799 today. I thought about asking if they’d take $1,500 and 1,000 primers. I’m considering going back tomorrow, but debating about seeing what Colt does next with the revolver lineup...

Adam 21 thanks for sending the picture of the two side by side.
They're actually very similar.
I could see getting the target version now and the python later.

But honestly the Old model 27's appeal to me just as much as the python for several hundred dollars less.

Part of my draw to the Colt spiritually is my origin of Hartford Connecticut.

Also so the more I think about it as a carrier revolver the cold d frame just makes more sense but then again I get red dog's point about me already having the 3-inch king cobra.

But looking at the Python and the king cobra Target side by side the king cobra Target is a much better value and I could see getting that in 4-in and then later if price is settled down getting the python in 6-in as another conundrum I have is not being sure whether I prefer the 4-in python or the 6-in
Decisions decisions, thank God no one's life is riding on this:evil:

I probably should just keep the money in my pocket and get my wife a new dishwasher that would probably improve the quality of my life more:scrutiny:
But this is a gift to myself for my 50th birthday which gives the Colt Python 2020 or a Smith & Wesson 327 or 27-2 built before or around when I was born more appeal.

In the current market I can always sell an AR or a Glock or Kel-Tec to fund most of either purchase.

Styx I'd love to know where you saw the python selling for 1400 cuz I'd already have been done bought that if I saw one.

Oh damn I hope that's not the one I was trying to buy:rofl:
Could you please honestly tell me what you paid for it?
The lowest price I saw was like 1999.
So Adam 21 now you have the trifecta?
King cobra and both pythons
If you set those loose in the Everglades I can watch it on swamp people:thumbup:

Was on SportsMans.com... I was looking at a S&W 66 Combat Magnum that I foolishly took to long to purchase. I saw the 4" Python in stock, but had no clue they were selling for almost $2k else I would have brought that too... Snooze you loose...

Anyway, according to Gun.Deals, looks like several venders had the Python for $1300-$1500 just a few months back.

Still searching for nice Python but thinking of getting the four inch Target king cobra for now and maybe a 6-in when a deal comes my way.
But maybe that is silly maybe that is like saying I'll pay $900 now for a king cobra 4-in so I don't have to pay $1,900 now for a python 4-in but then by another one later.

As strange is that logic would seem it's not actually that crazy.
Unless all I want is a 4-in python.
My eyes are now also open to a blue Smith & Wesson 357 Magnum from the 1950s through the 1980s AKA model 27 or a three to four inch 627.

Figured I'd owe you guys some pics after all the helpful advice:thumbup:
Also wanted to let you know I just ordered a new 20/20 python 4.25 in after scouring the internet and finding one had just popped up from a dealer for $100 less than I was just about to pay still a high price but what the hell you only turn 50 once and you probably won't hit 100:neener:
I left a little space in the picture for the 4.25 inch Colt right above its baby king cobra brother
