I'm gonna buy a revolver for my wife... I made that known here a long time ago I just can't get around to pulling the trigger on that buy for various reasons. It will happen... it fills a void and it's what she wants, but she ain't dying to have it and... well, see below.

I would also like a high capacity .45 ACP semi because I believe in a dedicated night stand handgun in that caliber (FNX is the leading candidate, though the new P10 will get a look-see).

I might get an AR. Never wanted one but I don't have one and I should have one before I can't get one. Right?

I'd love to have another hunting rifle, but I'd have to start hunting to justify it and I'd rather be on one of my boats.

Beyond the above, I look at the new offerings and ask myself if I'd like to have one and the answer is "yes." I ask myself if I need it and the answer is "no." Money isn't the problem. But the lack of "need" makes me lazy.

I'd like to boastfully say the need is "no" because I did my homework and made wise prior purchases but we all think that, right? I mean, I really like my current inventory, which isn't very large.

Either way, I can't get motivated to buy more guns. I'm good.

Do I need therapy?

Seriously, buying guns in the future will probably get more difficult and more expensive. I would pull the trigger on your wife’s gun ASAP and probably the nightstand gun too since both could be considered a need. Maybe not a huge need now but could be more important in the future.

I have everything I want with respect to firearms but if I didn't, I would be careful in what I would choose. New executive orders might make you a felon with the stroke of a pen. Buying it now and burying it in the backyard sounds great but............ A hundred 30 round AR mags is cool but............
I for one, have cut what will be called hi-capacity pistols down to two and each of those has a factory to round mag in the bag.

My acquiring something new in the marketplace and or additional firearms days are over. At the mid point of my seventh decade I've mostly been there done that in regards to various firearms. You have to know your limitations and I am there. Its not a matter of personal health or finances its just time to stop chasing the next greatest thing.:)

100% agree. Priorities shift this time of life.

I'm 74 and still chasing great options. Bought several new guns last year, otherwise known as the year from hell, which made the year more tolerable. I look forward to every purchase, every rifle build, and every trip to the range or field. The list of guns I would love to try out is shorter than it used to be, but still viable and active. Can't wait until the renewal of the Wanenmacher Gun Show in Tulsa come April. I love looking and learning. I'll still be buying, selling, building and trading as long as my health permits. Toward that end, I am also always building more friendships and mutual projects. I still have a lot to learn and knowledge to share.

Please let your wife choose the revolver. If she don't like one if you choose it, She may not want to practice with it.
Better yet she and him need to read The Cornered Cat and then SHE decides what will work best for HER. Personally small revolvers are among the hardest guns for just about anyone to shoot well, especially ones with DA only action.

Been there, done all that. Read THR's sticky about buying girlfriends/wives thread the day it was posted.
My wife has shot all my handguns, semi's and revolvers. She's handled almost as many as I have in gun shops. She's the least recoil sensitive woman I've ever shot with. She knows what she needs in tigger pull length and weight. No greenie.

1st, we aren't looking at small revolvers. 2nd, she picked out her revolver. Though I'd like her to handle a few more for comparison, she did a damn fine job with her current selection.

Good advice, much appreciated, but she's on her game. I ain't telling her what to buy.

I'm good too! and I'm one that thinks that there is no next greatest thing.

What has to be done... load, fire, extract, eject, load again has been done in enough flavors to keep me busy for a very long time. New materials, FCG's or calibers will have little enough substantive change in them to make me part with the more traditional launching platforms I already have.

Get your wife the revolver and then get an AR. Do it next week you won't regret it. As for the 45 you also might look at the Springfield XD/XDM tactual, 13rds and less expensive than the FNX.

stop chasing the next greatest thing.

Yep. I never chased it much though. I drive a 66 and 78 truck and several Mustangs that went pretty much unchanged 79-04 other than some sheet metal. I work on the "newest things" every day. Occasionally even the prototypes of the next, next great thing.... not impressed. At this point I find myself not saying "wow that's nice" but "wow that is going to break and be a real PIA"

I own a 5.7 and a couple x- frame smith's but then the next newest design on a gun I have would be 90s I think. Most are pre-50. And the x- frames aren't exactly groundbreaking in design. More in manufacturing and material I think.

As for the AR. I too thought I had to have one because they were banned. Then the AWB ban died. I bought one, then another. They are surprisingly accurate but otherwise I didn't need one. I used them for varmint. Basically a 8+lb (scope and bipod) awkward rifle for varmint that I couldn't lay prone to shoot unless I used a magazine that I could have bought during the ban. Lol. I think it's probably an excellent rifle for the troops that can fill many roles adequately well. For me there are far better choices for any specific task. Shotgun/ handgun for hd. Rimfire bolt gun for small varmint. Bigger bolt gun for predator/ large varmint. Etc.

I get the NRA magazines (a couple different ones) and see all the new things. I was looking through a guns and ammo from 67 yesterday that I found in my long deceased grandparents attic and I see far more things I find interesting in the old one than the new ones. Same for the car mags.

And just for the record I wasn't even thought about in 67. Not even thought about in 77.

I’m to a point where it’s all about want and nothing about need. I have gotten a bit lazy except for the specific things I want to own. I’m more focused on accessories this year, primarily pistol optics. I need to buy 2. I’m still watching the collectible market closely as pristine items haven’t moved at all, but beaters are a bit higher. I’m not buying at a premium unless I get a pretty good deal and that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Since it’s about want, figure out something that you really want... wife’s revolver for example, and focus there. Find it, buy it, and then find the next thing that you truly desire.

I'm at a similar space (not the wife revolver thing, she's happily adopted my Sig 228 for her night stand gun and doesn't want to carry) but in the "I don't really have anything on my list" area. Last purchase was a backup for my CCW.

I've got the carry, got the calibers, got all my rifle/shotgun needs covered.

Only thing I might need is a lightweight autoloading shotgun if I ever hunt upland game again more than once or twice a year.

FNX is a nice option for a "high capacity" .45, good shooters. I've looked at them a couple times but I already have a Glock 21 and 2011 so I never got one.

Oh, that's right, I have a line on a Sig 225 that a friend is holding for me, one I passed on years ago so I'm happy to have another shot at it.

you also might look at the Springfield XD/XDM tactual
My son had a .45 XD compact some years ago. I shot it well, he couldn't hit paper with it (drilled precise holes with my SR9c). I never considered the Springfields for carry because of weight but I'd consider one on my night stand.
