"higher volume of gas"

Is this even noticeable, or is it just subject to individual impression.

I went to my LGS yesterday to catalog a list of powder that is "normally" available and they happened to have two pounds.
After leaving and sitting in my truck for a minute, I went back in and bought one to try because it falls within the group of burn rates I am looking for. Not entirely what I would have chosen given other options but they had some.

Impressions?

I bought and used a pound of Autocomp back around '13. I don't run comp guns. It worked okay in normal pistol shooting. For target shooting I didn't notice any difference than with a like burn rate powder. I ran it mostly in 9mm and 357 mag.

The 2020 USPSA National survey says:
Open Division, Type of powder: 18% 3N38, 13% Autocomp, 11% HS6, 8% CFE Pistol
The majority run a 124gr 9mm with enough powder to make major and have a lot of gas to boot. The safe minority run 38 super comp.
I’ve resisted the urge to try this given other powders in the same group but if it was the only powder available, I wouldn’t hesitate. Good luck.

I use AutoComp for the 9X19MM when reloading with my progressive reloading press. For me the main attribute is that it meters consistently when charging the cases thus minimum variance in charge throw weight.

Good powder IMO. Works fine in “normal” loads for several calibers. I’ve mostly been using in in moderate .45 Colt loads for my SAA since it was one of the 2 or 3 powders I tested that was accurate and clean and hit to POA.

It was also very accurate in 9mm near the top of the published load range with 124 Extreme plated RN. Cases were a bit scorched according to my notes.

I posted a question about it a month or 2 ago. The consensus was that it was a good powder for full power 9mm and mid to full. 38, falling between H38 and H6. I haven't gotten into mine yet, but look forward to working with it.

Several grains of Autocomp has a whole lot more gas volume than 4 grains of a fast burning powder. It doesn't have more gas volume than a similar amount of Silhouette, Major Pistol, HS-6 or Blue Dot.

It's a small amount of marketing to a guy with a $7000 gun, more or less.

I makes an accurate 125 grain 357 load.
In a 6" barrel, it pushes the limits of what a 125 xtp can handle.
Muzzle blast isn't noticably different than any other comparable powder.
