Finally got a shot to shoot the IQ Munitions 400gr 44 mag load over a chrony, just a bit over 800fps roughly what I expected.

It's not a fun round to fire thru a 329pd but most magnums aren't.

Lots of unburned powder and it shoots pretty high. Not really a powerful load, doesn't crack 600ft lbs but it's still pretty interesting

I stopped , 20 years ago at NEI mold i.429 340 grain wide flat point for my .44 mags. I could get it to 1200 FPS in my three screw super Blackhawk or my 8 3/8 29-2 with out any pressure signs . In a 4" 629 that load is 1050 FPS and 1100 FPS in a 6 1/2" 629. I shot pigs with it , quite a few actually and it allways went clean thru at any angle on any sized pig . It also seemed to put them down as fast as any .44 mag load I used for that purpose. For a few year stretch I shot them in cage traps a friend and I built for a rancher he set around lettuce and strawberry fields. It got to be way too much work for us to kill and clean them in our "spare" time. His workers took over for us and took the meat home. Later they were buried in lime pits there were sooo many and they are hard to skin!
That 340 grain boolit is pretty long and deep seated in an S&W .44 mag cylinder , but to this day remains my favorite bear country load , 20 grains of H110 and a magnum primer for the Black Hawk gives 1200 FPS . It has heavy recoil but less than a full on .454 and less offensive blast. I back of that load to 18 grains these days and load the bullet to fit M629 cylinders . Still plenty powerful for anything.

I bet that’s an intimidating load in a 329... In my 6.5” 629 power port I can imagine it could be tough to hang on to even with all that extra weight.

In a Super Redhawk or Super Blackhawk I will guess it’s a bit more civilized. (My .454 SRH is a beast, with the smaller .44 chambers/bore there’s even more steel weight to dampen the kick )

Stay safe.

Yoe! Anti, please post a picture of the bullet next to a loaded round. Are bullets available or did you cast yer' own?

It's a factory load so I don't have pics of the bullet itself, maybe on their website?

Y’all must be young men or super Alpha males! What y’all hunting with those insane loads? Cape Buffalo or Kodiak Grizzly? Them +P loads with boulders for projectiles will take their toll on your joints and ligaments. The heaviest I go with is 310 grain Oregon Trail over 18.5 gr W296, at about 1150 FPS. Not too much recoil, and will put down anything that walks the earth with accurate shot placement. This load will shoot cloverleafs all day from my Rugers. 1/2 the price of Buffalo Bore and Garett heavy loads if you reload!
