See the later posts in this thread.. now considering the Frankford Arsenal Pile Driver Bullet Puller..

I'd like to use a single stage press to pull pistol bullets with the grip-n-pull.. all the examples like this are done with rifle rounds.
  • I don't own a single stage press.. will a 9mm pistol round protrude high enough?
  • Will one brand of a single stage press raise higher than another press brand for this task?
Thanks.

I had to take apart 400 rnds of .9mm and .40 recently and i had kinetic hammer (which worked best for me), i bought grip n pull but for handgun bullets its a bad design...you have to center a metal cylinder over the ram everything moves around and i got the rcbs bullet puller w/appropriate collet... this was easiest method but it only worked on a handful i could never get collet tight enough and it made a ring around all bullets i tried it on... someone mentioned hornady bullet puller and that might be way to go...but after all that kinetic puller worked the best for me. 20210220_173033.jpg 20210220_172936.jpg

I've never needed a bullet puller. But that day will arrive.. so I figure if I own a *good* bullet puller, I'll never need it. lol.
I have a disability in my arms that makes the impact hammer action unbearable for me to do.
What do you think about the Frankford Arsenal Pile Driver Bullet Puller?

I do what Juiceking above did. I used a short piece of PVC pipe to fit over the ram. Raise the ram, insert round, grab bullet, lower ram. The tool rests on the PVC pipe and pulls the bullet out while lowering the ram.

Use a collet style if you don't want to leave a mark.

Cast lead bullets, I just use a big pair of wire cutters and toss the bullet into the re-melt can.

Interesting, it has the versatility of a hammer but no impact on the user. If you have the space and the cash I think it could be just the ticket. The collet puller is best suited to fmj where a thick jacket is available and accuracy is not paramount. I'm not sure that serious competition shooter would reuse a bullet for something other than a Fowler or just trigger practice.

I can't give an opinion on the Pile Driver, but I've had an RCBS collet type puller for decades.

A friend got one of the Hornady Cam Lock pullers a couple of years ago, it is definitely faster and easier to use than the RCBS.
