I'm clearly not new to reloading and not a virgin to new normal pricing, but the auction site is certainly new deep waters for me. After looking around at the primer prices I (as expected) needed to take a shower :barf:

That having been said, some/most quote shipping prices, generally in the $25 range. Before I make a donkey of myself pinging every seller, as a general rule are HAZMAT charges additional and unstated, requiring me to ping every seller? Or if not stated is it understood/inferred HAZMAT is included in the selling price (I use that term loosely) whether winning an auction or "Buy Now"? If the latter, I'd surely follow up with the confirmation before tendering a reasonable, if laughable offer.

-jb, looking for new definition of "selling" prices

Buying anything gun related is insane right now.

Biden is probably the best thing that has ever happened to the gun manufacturers and ammo makers for a very long time.

We'll have to wait until the both of them work things out. In the mean time the gun owners are at the bottom of the list.

You would have to sadly ask each seller. Some, I have heard, are just shipping them. This is of course not kosher but, what can I say. For them to do it all correctly they would have to ship them just the way anyone else does. So if the ad does not mention the Haz-Mat fee you will need to make sure before you commit to buy. If one was just going to ship them? Not a lawyer here so not sure what "risk" you would be looking at. I would have to guess if they were found out during shipping you would of course be out of luck as they would grab the shipment. At that point it would be up to you how you got the money back you paid for them. So buyer beware here

Hazmat is typically in addition to the shipping charges; the hazmat fees will be about that same $25 amount.

Thanks folks, about what I was expecting. A while back I was close to buying a high dollar custom rifle until I had to factor in the federal excise tax. Wait. Don't all manufacturers have this included because it's universal to all firearms?
Anyway, being a new guy at auctions, I didn't want to be marked as a "mark," thanks. The site is (I was thinking it might not be agreeable to name a site) of course gunbroker.

-jb, adding shipping, sales tax, HAZMAT, day of the week, phase of the moon and ...

Most of these guys are chucking them in a box and sending it without Hazmat. I've seen priority mail shipping... usps ground shipping... you name it. The majority of the folks selling them on GB are turning a blind eye to the hazmat requirement.

Analog, what happens if the shipment is discovered? Does it get confiscated? Who is on the hook, buyer or seller?
I'd sure hate to have some poor FedEx guy tossing primers around like my boxes usually show up :what:

-jb, rather not having boxes with scorch marks

How they are packaged individually in bricks, it would be almost impossible to set them off from dropping. The real hazard would be if the truck caught on fire... and then it wouldn't matter how they were packed. As long as they are packed with any sense whatsoever, they will be fine.

Yes, we are ALL sick of people scalping primers, but you've never heard of a single one getting set off in shipping. You'd be amazed at the amount of powder, ammo and primers that goes through the USPS.

Who knows. Doubt it could be the buyer. He didnt ship it.

But we all know what is going on here. If someone is charging only $14 for the shipment of 1000k or primers... just know they are pocketing some of that fee .....and shipping them ground or priority mail.
