I am going to form 1 a couple cans this year. I’m trying to think through the capabilities and what I would do with a can. Rimfire can is a must so there’s no need discussing that. Pistol can will be 38/9mm because I am kinda focused around that diameter with my collection, and that’s where my interest remains, so again that one is a nobrainer that’s not worth discussion. A rifle can though is something to talk about. Currently I shoot 30-30, 30 carbine, 223, 270, 7-30 waters, 256 winmag, and will likely not shoot them all suppressed but would consider for sure the 30 cals and 7-30. I know a can can be effective for heavy 30-30 but I have never heard any reports of 30 carbine being suppressed. Would it be worth using a can on 30 carbine?

Teddy Roosevelt famously had a 30-30 lever action with a silencer on it to control varmints without disturbing his neighbors. You just need enough barrel to move the front sight back and thread the end of the barrel.

A dedicated .30 carbine can I would build more along the lines of a pistol suppressor, but you're going to have a lot of port noise with a semi auto anyway, so build for your .270, will work decent on the rest.

1.5 or 1.625 diameter, 8" length. A universal. 30 cal rifle can.

I sent my 30 carbine off to get the barrel threaded last summer. But I dont have a 30 cal suppressor, yet.
But I ran into a guy at the range with a 30 cal suppressor. It had his name on it so my guess is it was a form 1 job that has a stack of cones that screw inside of each other.
I think it had 8 cones, he took half of the cones off and said you don't want all 8 on a semi auto. It was an inch and a half wide so no sites. It was pretty slick. It went poof and the action cycled, more quite than I thought it would be.

A good .30 cal can could cover a lot of ground. Would be a bit over built for the 30 carbine, .223 and such but would work and cover the 270, 7-30, 256wm. Not the most effective for the rounds that could get by with smaller diameter baffles but less work and cost.

I have modified a number of lever guns for suppressor. The Marlin is my favorite by far. I have done 30-30s, 357s, 44s, 45s. Most of the time, the front sight survives the transition. If it is a ramp, the front of the ramp is ground away for clearance. Some or much of the time, the magazine plug is cut back to clear the suppressor/adapter as well. The hard part, at least to me is removing and re-indexing the barrel. However, with proper care, I get it done. I charge the shop I work for $250 for the work. I usually completely clean the gun(it is detail stripped already) and include some action polishing/action job while I am at it. I also freshen the crown if desired.

Henry also has their X Lever series in 30/30, 44 Mag, and 45/70. It even has a side loading gate.
