I let my second revolver purchase, an S&W Model 581, acquired in 1983, get away from me, because I thought that bigger bores would be “better.” I later realized that the .357 Magnum was/is ample for defensive needs, and that I have K/L-Frame-sized hands, not N-Frame-sized hands. I realized, too late, that the 581 was a perfect revolving pistol, for me. (“A” perfect is not quite the same as “The” perfect.) I would like to “replace” this one, sooner or later. Now and then, one will pass through a large local collectible-oriented gun store, so, I keep my eyes open. This is the only specific model that is firmly on my to-buy list, subject to passing an inspection regarding fit, finish, and parts wear.
A nice sample of an S&W Model 681 just might serve as a suitable substitute. I came of age during the stainless steel era, and live a short distance from salt water, in humid SE Texas.
Then, I would like to add an S&W Model 586, blued, probably with a 6” barrel.
Otherwise, well, yes, there are plenty of revolvers that would be nice to have, or seem like good ideas, but whether it is reaching the end of my fifties, or some recent significant life events having an influence, lists of specific things seem less important, lately. Single-action revolvers now seem more interesting than DA revolvers, but I have not found myself making a wish list of individual models.
