Where they tell me to go
Are there stocking dealers I should look at for a Freedom Arms?

Want a 4.5in 44SPC M97. They don't seem to be real common so I may need to order direct. If you have done that please let me know any advice you have and how that process goes.

Thanks in advance!

Used is great. My only FA , I bought used a year ago for under $1,000. It had about 20 rds down range and left the factory in July 1988.

Times might be different now

I suppose it’s because Freedom, Wyoming is not that far from here (we go through it when we drive over to Jackson Hole) that seeing a FA revolver or two on a shelf in a LGS is not all that uncommon. Neither is it uncommon to see representatives from FA with some tables at a gun show - back when there used to be gun shows around here.;)
At any rate, I bought my FA revolver from our favorite LGS owner just before he retired and closed shop. He made me one heck of a good deal on it; my wife and I had been a couple of his “best customers” for a long time, and we’re still good friends with him and his wife.
But to answer your question, if I was in the market for another FA revolver, (and I probably will be one of these days) I’d just give FA a call. They’re really good people, and I’m sure they’ll help you get things figured out. I’m guessing they’ll ship your revolver to a local FFL dealer, who may or may not charge you for his services.

I watched the Freedom Arms website, in stock gun page. When I seen they had what is was wanting, a model 97 .44 special with a 4 1/4” barrel, in stock, I called to verify they did have it, ask them to hold it and called the gun shop I buy from, to order. The people at Freedom arms are nice and will work with you. I had it in my hands in two days. You will not regret buying one. There is nothing else like a Freedom Arms,

I've always admired them but unloading that model is a pain, and they really don't look like a traditional SAA.

Gary,
Thanks! Didn't know about their available list, just found it now. The one in your pic is pretty much the one I want.

I have a .454 but want a smaller framed one.
I also have a field grade 454. I bought it in the 90's. It is a fine revolver, also. It is just big and heavy for me now. I wanted a shorter lighter revolver, for woods carry. The FA .44 Special is perfect. I ordered an ElPaso sadlery three person crossdraw holster for it and it carries it perfectly. You will be pleased.

Thanks all!

They say their stock is available in 2016. Makes me think they haven't updated their site in a long time. Need to look into them more.

I just looked on the Freedom Arms website and took a picture of what they show in stock. It’s at the very bottom of the home page.

I found my Field Grade .454 on Gunbroker for about $1500. It was near mint and also came with a .45Colt cylinder. By the time I bought the gun, had Rob Rowen fit it with bighorn sheep, installed the scope and mounts, I had still spent a good bit less than a new one.

Love those grips. I like the factory grips but they get a dull look, the more they are handled.

Thanks! They just stopped offering their ivory micarta too. I always wanted a short barreled 83 with ivory micarta.

Thanks all!

Something made me back out just this year on that site. Don’t remember exactly, but it might have been the shipping situation or lack-there-of.

Gary, I was referring to the link that Guyfromohio posted of a dealer, not Freedom's site.

Bummer that the white micarta is gone. I prefer the black myself but brother was looking for the white.

The model 83 is my favorite and they definitely look better than a traditional SAA and shoot much much better.
I got mine locally from gun trading and selling sites within State boundaries or bargaining at local gun shops.
And yes guns international site is a not very well kept secret which I prefer over GunBroker.

Yes they are different beasts.
I don't have a Colt SAA but I'm seriously thinking of getting one but it will cost me almost as much as an FA model 83 premier grade and I think I'd rather have a 44 Magnum FA model 83 premier grade to go along with my 454 casull FA. For practical purposes I do not doubt the Freedom Arms will far exceed the colts SAA, so in what ways is a Colt third generation as good or better?
