A Cabela’s employee told me this AM but had no details other than “probably only being used in their own ammo.” He was parsing out Winchester 5.56 and some strange brand 9mm ammo.

I was there picking up some Extreme 230gr RN I had shipped to store.

oh yeah...just googled and other forums are discussing Sig too so it must be real:)

They may be sourcing them from somebody out of the country so that they can make their own ammo. Not likely the are going to set up to manufacture primers for a short term need.

I don’t know, I think for the next few years, they’d be able to make the transition work for them. Sig has expanded into optics and ammo, and I’ve seen Sig brand VCrown JHP projectiles for sale.... why not add primers to the lineup.

Quick internet research revealed that SIG is starting to make primers so they can become more vertically integrated. What I read said they started production, but their production capacity is not sufficient to meet their internal demands for ammunition production. So... don't expect to see any SIG primers for sale any time soon. Although, the more they make for themselves, the less production capacity they need to buy from the other domestic manufacturers.

I was speaking to the owner of my lgs last week and we were talking about the primer situation. She said that when she spoke with Sig, she’s a dealer, that their primer production for the reloading market probably won’t be seen to maybe 2022. Hopefully Vista gets the Remington ammo plant up and running, which would include primer production.

Well any production not under the vista umbrella is wonderful... a single company having all the capacity in the country is terrible...
Around my neck of the woods, we all call Vista, "Walmarvista", because they own just about everything.

Nothing like buying everyone out, then control the market with your own goods & supplies. It screws EVERYBODY all at once. That`s how we lost all the mom & pop stores.

That happens and sucks, but in this situation, Vista buying Remington was a good thing, because Remy was headed for the crapper and the ammo/production was a goner.

I welcome Sig adding capacity...but I also applaud Vista for helping sustain another.

Expanded into is different than actually making product. LL Bean, Orvis, and most American companies have their name put on their products that someone else makes for them

The mom and pop stores were a casualty of the evolution of retail. Not saying I like it, but it’s reality.

And if you’ve ever shopped at Wally World/Target/Dicks/Lowe’s/Home Depot/any other Big Box/online, you contributed to it as well.

I'd rather see RUAG get into the game, either with a proprietary Swiss/German product or under the S&B, Norma or Magtech banners, but any new production is good production.

Yeahhhh, well the reality of it sucks. But one thing is for sure, we usually have to get back to our roots to find reality of the past that it was better than where we ended up.
You suppose CHINA could send us some primers along with all that "Wally World/Target/Dicks/Lowe’s/Home Depot" garbage they send over here????

I heard some primers escaped from a lab in Wuhan and may be replicating out of control.
