My vote would go to the Colt Python yes it's an incredibly awesome looking handgun and well-made but $1800 for one of the new reissues?
And from $2500-$4000 for a vintage?
I saw one on Gb a 70's era one they wanted $10,000 for! Ouch! They are cool but not that cool!

Anything in the way of a handgun is going way high right now. A completed auction search on GB may make you have a nosebleed. Makes me regret selling off half our stock before all this nonsense kicked in. Heck even stellar names like rohm, raven, titan are now hot commodities as are parts for them. Even Black powder handguns are in demand.

I find myself thinking I could sell this or that. The problem is that replacing or buying a different gun would cost more and therefore not a bargain. Time to hang onto the guns and stock of ammo. Although the SKS I paid less than 50 bucks for are selling for over 400. Who would have thought!

Overpriced is a lot different than expensive. The new Pythons are actually under priced. The factory is not capable of making them as fast as they sell them and they sell on Gun Broker at above retail price. $5000 for a Korth or Wilson Combat is a lot of money. You are paying for quality. Making those high end guns is not easy or cheap. If you want to pay $8000+ for a custom flintlock rifle you will have a tough time getting on a waiting list that is under 3 years. For some builders it is a lot longer. Reality is that customers set the price. Not the manufacturers. If Ruger priced 10/22 at $3000 they would not sell very many. So they price it at what customers are willing to pay. Retail price on a new Python is $1499. Good luck getting one at that price at the local gun store. You can get one right now on Gun Broker for $2000+ because that is what customers have decided the price is.

Probably something I just bought, and definitely not something I'm considering selling.

What makes it worth the price? Is a FA over-priced compared to a Ruger? Does resale appreciation count towards making it worth the price, or is that just more evidence of it being over-priced? I mean if you buy a Taurus 66 and a S&W 686 and they never have a failure and are equally accurate, if you paid the same amount for each, the Taurus was over-priced because you'll get more out of the Smith in resale. So if the Smith was a couple hundred more, was it over-priced since the function is the same, or since resale will be better than the Taurus, was it worth it, or does it just remain over-priced?

I like revolvers and I buy Freedom Arms revolvers because I think they are finely crafted, literally works of firearms art and worth the money. How does the Colt Python compare to Freedom Arms revolvers in terms of quality? If they are of equal quality, and I am not a gunsmith or someone capable of making that determination, then I think the Colt is a bargain at $1800.00.

FK BRNO or whatever it was called that cost 8 grand and fired some new hotness 7.5mm bullet. No brand new and currently produced handgun is worth that much.
