Another stock job.

This is the next project. 03A3 Remington I picked up a few months ago at a farm consignment auction. Wood is not particularly dinged up with only a small chip on the underside. No visible cartouche on the wood. Will do a light sanding and give it the same BLO finish as on my other projects.

This shows the chip.

I’ve given it some thought. Haven’t made up my mind yet.

Well......I’m going to try my hand at patching the chipped out part. It’s a small area and I have a plan for the repair. I bought some wood so I’ll tackle it as long as my wife doesn’t have other plans for me.

Ok, I’ve made my patch. Did a light sanding on stock to break any sealer. I will need to stain the patch to match as closely as possible. Will the use the BLO like I have done on the other projects.

A little more stain blending and touch with extra fine paper then BLO finish.

I used a piece of scrap wood that closely matched walnut.

After doing some other chores I have been putting off, I’ve gotten back on the stock job. Cold weather and damp conditions have also hampered the project. First coat of BLO has been applied. Patched area is a little darker than I had hoped for but, it’s not too bad.

Finished stock job. Patch is not perfect but, it was my first attempt. Anyway, this is how it turned out. Probably will not do another stock till spring or summer.

Thanks for the offer! I’ll keep that in mind in case I have a need some small scraps.
