No more new cartridges

The only thing developed since the Korean War that has held any interest for me are .223, 10mm & .300 blk.

Oops.... .22 WMR too.

The rest are just industry farts, gasps and wheezings to me.

Hell, I chafe at getting much of anything that I don't already have magazines for so my point of view?.... well, it might be a bit skewed.;)

Todd.

With all due respect to the OP's opinion, one more cartridge in development, more or less, isn't going to appreciably change the availability of other cartridges. Stopping just one cartridge, or several in development in favor of making more of already accepted and in demand cartridges is like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic with the expectation that it's going to change the outcome....

I have to say, I tend to agree with the OP but for different reasons. In the rifle world especially theirs so much overlap of so many cartridges a lot of them are basically pointless.
If you’re a researcher or developer and your new idea has already been done, except with a rim instead of a belt, or if this ___mm is the same as that one but this one is 100fps faster. Come on man! get a better idea.

I'm in favor of new cartridges, I’m not in favor of what is basically a redo of something we already have and we have such a wide variety today it’s hard to find something truly new.

Then again I know people that LOVE the .308 and absolutely HATE the 30-06. When asked why, what makes them so different? you generally get a blank stare. Personally I prefer the .303 to both.

To my original point, go look up the ballistics to those three and find me a good convincing argument for not scrapping two of them, and a 1/2” isn’t a convincing argument, at least to me. And I’m not say we should do away with anything, I am saying if you’re developing a .30 cal 2,700 FPS cartridge, I have to why? Just how many are needed?

I’ll go duck behind a wall now. Lol

“Also, the supply chain issues are temporary. Things will normalize again eventually, and you'll be able to buy all the components you can store. Use that opportunity to stack it deep.”

This sums it up nicely.

You and I hope. If you've been paying attention to the politics there is a lot of reason for fear and doubt.

As long as the .308 continues to be made, why does anyone need a new cartridge.:)
Most don't "need" a new cartridge. .308 does it all in N. America if you want to take medium to large game. Probably the most versatile 30 cal. rifle cartridge ever to hit the civilian market. Hugely successful like the 30-06 but a shorter action. It's old and people want something newer. Newer is better but the advancement in cartridge technology is almost immeasurable when compared to performance for most applications.

We need a cartridge to fill the gap between .22 Short and .22 Long Rifle.

It should have a 33 gr bullet and a case length of 9.22mm.

We should call it the 5.56 X 9.22 Terry cartridge.

Or more euphoniously, the ".22 Terry."
