I picked this up a few weeks ago in Kalispell. Rossi 42LC w/ 16" barrel and a wide loop lever. Last week I took it for a test drive with some mild and a few will loads. Absolutely no hiccups in about 25 rounds. Today, a beautiful day at the range, and I loaded it up with 250 gr Hornady XTPs on top of 25 gr of H110. Put my target out to 25 yds and tried some standing offhand shots and I was pretty impressed.

Its been a long time since I have tried to actually shoot for accuracy with open sights and my aging eyes are not quite forgiving.
I have put off getting a Rossi for a few years now but you guys on THR have bee touting it for so long that I finally succumbed. Sure glad I did. This make 4 leverguns in 45LC in my collection but I have to say this is the one that I am gonna haul around in the mountains. Its just a kick in the a#@* to shoot. I don't know how to explain it better but it is just pure unadulterated fun! I never got that same feeling before when shooting rifles or handguns.
Things could be done to the action to smooth it out and I may get to that at some point. But once a round is chambered then all that beforehand doesn't matter. It loaded easily (9 rounds in the tube), cycled every round with no problems, gave acceptable accuracy IMHO, and ejected the empties as it should. As Doug Marcaida would say, "it will keel".

I have to say the that rifle, I have the same, gets taken out more than any other for random tasks. It’s so light and handy that it gets duty fro everything from truck and camp gun to backwoods hiking. 16” delivers all the performance possible from the hottest loads one would use in a lever gun. Great little rifle. Enjoy!

I had a Rossi 92 .45 Colt with the longer octagon barrel.
I was using mine in Cowboy Action Shooting and I put a lot of lead down range with it. I tricked it out a bit with springs and a steel magazine follower from Stevez Guns. https://stevesgunz.com/

It was a fine rifle. The only problem I had with it after a few hundred rounds was I had to shim the cartridge guides in the receiver. Easy job, once I figured out what was wrong, not that you will ever have a problem. Steve at Stevez Guns is the guy to contact if you ever do.

I sold mine because of the barrel weight. Had I bought the one like yours I would definitely still have it. The 24” octagon barrel was a bit too cumbersome for my liking.

Looks like you have yourself a fun gun there.

You made a good decision.

I’m on the lookout for a 45 Colt octagon Rossi rifle in stainless. Pretty uncommon but I know I will love it when I get one.

I love my 20" 357/38 Rossi.
Also have the 24" half octagon blued one that is a hoot to shoot.
You'll love it more and more.

Great gun, like DocRock my 16” Rossi 92 .45 Colt is also my favorite rifle to pull out and shoot. I’m sure that before long you’ll be in the same boat we are :).

I, too went to Steve’s Gunz and picked up the metal magazine follower for the .45 as well as my 16” .357, both got the safety lever delete and I bought his Rossi action tuning DVD.

Have fun with your new Rossi .

Stay safe.

I like my Rossi 357 so much I forgot to put my britches on before I went out to shoot one day!!
Jammies....hill billy style!! 9804D38B-8AD4-4A3D-8D4B-1C913C9A68E7.jpeg

Were you still in your slippers?

Growing up I was fortunate enough to be able to hunt on the land my house was on. It was deer season and one morning I woke up after oversleeping and dad said there were deer in the back field. This was probably 500 yds away but they were moving our direction.

I immediately threw on boots with no socks, a light jacket and no shirt, and I was wearing basketball shorts and it was 30 degrees out in MI. I grabbed my shotgun already loaded in the back room and ran to take up a position about 100 yds from the house on a path I figured they would take. They didn’t take that path and took one that was even closer to the house and still easily in range. I took aim at a big doe and dropped her in her tracks and shucked the slide and shot the one standing right behind and she dropped too.....40 yds from where we would be hanging and skinning them all while essentially in my pajamas.
