Out of Primers

I've been doing some similar experimenting as I have far more SRP's than SPP's. So far in my M&P 9mms I've found that Federal #205M and CCI #400 both work 100% of the time but CCI BR4 have frequent light strikes and CCI #41 don't work in my pistols at all, but are 100% reliable in my AR.

Very happy to read this, as I have a brick of both CCI #400 and Federal #205M that I'm planning to try in 9mm. Was actually going to load them up this weekend. All my reading and research indicated this should work fine, but I'm happy to hear from someone who did exactly what I'm planning to do, lol.

Mind sharing what powder you used? I think I'll start with W231 .

Once again if you were close by I would gladly wasp you WSP for those CCI#400

Yup, stinks, doesn't it? I've seen at least a half dozen primer trades I'd have happily made if shipping them were possible. I even have a listing in the classified section to trade primers, but we're all scattered around the country unfortunately.

I was using Titegroup with those test rounds.

Thanks walkalong- given the current primer scarcity that's an excellent test! I'm saving my stash of RMR MPR's for now but will be working up some cast lead coated with Hi-tek when they arrive in a week or 2.

By the way, this is not the first time you've responded to my questions with some incredibly thorough and well-documented test data. Thanks very much for all of the testing you do for our benefit.

Win 231 is great in 9mm at least it is in this M&P

I like it too - that's actually what I'm planning on trying. Thanks!

I haven't done any significant testing, at least with any scientific data to share. I've loaded 38 Super, 9mm, and 380 with CCI SPP, SRP, SPMag, Federal SPP, SRP and GMSRP. I've even used a few Rem 6 1/2's in the 38 Super. My 380 is a Sig p238. The others are all 1911's. Haven't had a single FTF but I've had quite a few FTHS.

FTHS?....... Not familiar with that one. Failure to Hit.... Stuff?

Thanks for posting that though- I'm feeling better and better about using these substitutes for proper SPP's.

^^^ FTHS...Apparently I have that particular failure all too often...

Now I’m scrounging around until I find it. That’s a quarter now!
That much huh. Most of mine were $.02 or so but I still bend over and pick them up. I will admit to tossing around 400 LPP I removed from old, mostly corroded military .06 ball, tracer and black tip. The brass and projectiles were fine, well worth the dime each I paid.

Even the squirrel daddy pin wouldn't set off the primer after punching a hole clean through it. The old domed type, not flat.
