I'm newbie as well - My first intro to shooting and hunting was an H&R .410 shotgun, a 12ga Wards WesternField side-by-side, and a .303 British (Ishapore?) bolt-action. Also spent a little time as a youngster learning at the local police department with Remington Matchmaster .22 bolt-actions.

Now days, I have a thing for 9mm CCW, building AR-15's in .223 Wylde, .224 Valkyrie, and the urge to build a truck gun in 300AAC.
My Fiance bestowed me with Marlin 336 lever gun chambered in .35 Remington, which will be the deer gun. We also have a Remington 7600 carbine in 30-06.

Off to a good start, I would say?

Welcome, Lenny62. Sorry I didn't see your post at first. We are always glad to hear from someone new to the sport, as your enthusiasm gets us all excited again. It's a pretty friendly bunch here with a lot of experience, and we look forward to further fun. Enjoy!

Boy howdy, you got that right, amp-rat! Still a lot of fun to be had, but new challenges at every turn. That's why it is so important to help each other and learn from the mistakes and expensive lessons related by others. We are glad to welcome you to the family, and hope you will enjoy your affiliation.

Hi I am a new member and I am into handguns and reloading. I just bought a beretta 92x compact for my edc and I love it. I just went to the range today and this gun shoots a lot better than I do shot a 4 inch group at 7 yards and I know it will get better. Love this gun and HI TO ALL YOU GUYS OUT THERE! Talk to ya later.

I joined a couple of days ago and thought I'd introduce myself. Live in eastern PA. Always have. Married two grown sons, both doing well for themselves and their families. Joined the navy before HS graduation, served as a snipe on a WW II destroyer mostly off the coast of RVN. First rifle was a Remington 700 in .270W to go hunting with a friend. Didn't come to hunting or firearms until later in life, @1980. What I like is old stuff, including guns. Blue steel and walnut for me. Rifles and handguns are what I use. I have a couple of shotguns but since upland hunting where I live is a thing of the past, the 20 gauge Ithaca 37 is really all I'll need. Dig 22 pump rifles and 22's in general, I hunt with a Savage 99 in 300S made before WW II. I look forward to participating here.

Welcome, blackgang. Thank you for your Navy years and the experience you bring to the board. I am sorry to hear that upland hunting is no longer practical, but regard the m37 20ga as the perfect tool for the job. I am curious about the origin of your screen name, so hope you will share that. Meanwhile, you have found a friendly bunch of shooters with a lot of experience to share, and I hope you enjoy your time here.

Blackgang is a slang term for the engineering crew on a ship. I suppose it refers to the time when coal powered the steam engines, leaving everyone a little dark. Snipe is another slang term for the same thing. I happened to be a boiler technician.
Thank you for the welcome rust collector.

Thanks CapnMac. I had three brothers that followed me into the navy when their time came. Two ended up on bird farms, one a BT, the other a Machinists Mate. The third was a hull tech. Not sure if he ever saw the ocean. Being a boiler tech had its moments. Can't say I enjoyed every minute but wouldn't change a thing.

Just to be clear, a brownshoe sailor worked in the aviation side of a bird farm (aircraft carrier). A blackshoe sailor was everyone else. No aviation on a destroyer of the vintage I sailed on.

Judging by your avatar, I'm thinking Marine. BZ yourself

Hello, I'm a new user, from Argentina wanting to learn more. Already half a century old, been around guns since a kid. I started with a Mahely 5.5 air rifle, and shooting secretly a Gabilondo .22 LR Revolver.
After that I used a couple of .22 LR rifles. A Remington Nylon 66 and a Mahely.
I bought my first gun at age 21 (minimum age for purchasing guns in Argentina). It was a S&W 686 6" in .357 Magnum. At the same time I started reloading.
I have dies for .32 LR, 9mm Luger, .357 Mag, .44-40, .44 Mag, .45 ACP, .243 Win, .30-30, .308 Win, .30-06, .300 WeaMag, 7.65 Argentine Mauser, and .43 Spanish. (in Bold, the ones I haven't used yet).
In Argentina, guns are expensive, and ammo, even expensier :p
Recently I bought a Lee Production Pot and 4 molds and can't wait to start producing my bullets.
Saludos!

Welcome to our community, ectrigger! Yes, although we often whine about ammunition being scarce, our access to guns and ammunition is good compared to most other countries. We are happy that you are able to enjoy your guns even though it is more difficult. You may want to visit http://castboolits.gunloads.com/ for more information on the bullet casting process. Enjoy!

I also had a Remington Nylon 66 years back, it was a great rifle and almost indestructible - (It didn't survive a house fire, unfortunately) but was OK bouncing around behind the seat of my pickup truck!

Thanks for having me! Now that I'm retired I thought I'd get back into target shooting, but I guess my timing was a little off with all the shortages. I have an armful of .22's and shotguns with enough ammo to get me through this summer but was really hoping to buy something in the 7.62 cal. to shoot, but they all seem a little scarce at this point in time.
Looks like I got a lot of reading to do, so much info here and so little time. Thanks again, Dan

Hello, DanMcG. Any relation to Robert Service's Dangerous Dan McGrew? Didn't think so. Welcome to our little home on the net. Many of us are old enough to know better, but nobody listens :D The ammo issue should ease somewhat in the months ahead, but of course greedy folks will slow that recovery trying to make money for nothing. Please be kind, spend a few moments in the THR primer notes and enjoy yourself. We are glad to have you with us.

Hello and thanks for the Add.
I've been restoring Mosin rifles for a few years as a hobby. Recently ( Friday) I picked up another and low and behold... left with 3 rifles.
1944 M44 ( intended purchase)
Ishapore Fr 1963 RFI no 4 Enfield and a unfortunatly sporterized 1943 Savage No 4
( questions on that to follow)
Some of my collection so far. 20210306_192228.jpg 20210303_190912.jpg

Welcome, Jelew1969! Looks like you did good! I have an M44 which I enjoy, and a 91/30 I have owned for 5 or 6 years but never fired. There are 2+ spam cans of ammo for them, (obtained when they cost about $40 each) so I need to get my rear in gear. Please keep us posted as you get acquainted with the new arrivals, and thank you for the introduction. I think you will like it here.

Not new, just been off the boards for a while (went back to university to finish my degree). Was here with a different moniker back when THR began, about the time when TFL was shuttered for a while. Looks like this place is booming: 3-4 pages of new posts every 12 hrs!

We are happy to be rediscovered, Llew! We continue to live in interesting times, but emphasis is on "live". It is a busy place, and we are honored to welcome new and returning people to the community. There is a great base of experience and expertise here, and the tone is civil and respectful. Thank you for the intro, and I hope you find us useful.

Hello. I'm not exactly new here but I'm back after a long absence. I was a member for years but for the life of me I couldn't remember my username or password or even which email account I used back then.
Anyhow, here i am.
