Figured id celebrate this little milestone here on THR. I joined before I bought a gun just to try and do a little research. I think I got a link for this forum from a boating forum im on as well. But this past Sunday marks 1 year when I made my first firearm purchase and got to bring it home a few days later.

My first firearm was a new S&W M&P .22 Compact with FDE colored frame. It's been an expensive lifestyle since. Not long after I picked up a used Beretta PX4 Storm and a LEO trade in M&P .40 1.0. At the time id thought id just get into collecting M&P handguns. My how that changed quickly, i really progressed into a Beretta and Sig Sauer fan boy with Beretta being the most common firearm maker in my collection. It was a bad time to get into it and I did get caught up in panic buying guns just incase I couldn't find them later. I try not to think of how much of spent between firearms, ammo, and magazines. Didn't take long either to get into surplus collecting that started with a Zastava M57 Tokarev and a post war French Mas 36.

So from 0 to about 40 firearms in a year. It's been an interesting time. Trying to take it a little slower now and let my bank account recover. I do have a handful of guns on my want list this year, some new, some surplus with history. I've learned a bit from THR and thanks to those that I've learned from.

Here's to lifetime as a gun owner

It is a bit surprising, isn't it? And I'll bet you still aren't intent on shooting up the town or visiting mayhem upon all you encounter. Guns are fascinating answers to questions that vary all over the place. There are many configurations and styles that one must try in order to appreciate. The challenge is to figure out what appeals to you specifically. You will likely find that you are attracted to some types but not others, and will specialize as you go. It's all good.

Way to go on those Berettas. I hold the Px4 Storm in high regard , and I shoot steel plate club competition with my 92 Vertec.
I'll give you a temptation - check out the predecessor to the 92 , the Beretta model 1951.

Enjoy.

Have you been able to shoot what you bought? Wow 40 firearms in 1 year when ammo and gun prices are way above normal. Amazing.
All of the handguns. Still quite a bunch of rifles ive yet to shoot due to the range I frequent is an indoor and they only pistol calibers, 5.56, and 7.62x39. I've yet to shot most of the military surplus. Been waiting for a coworker that has membership to an outdoor range to finally invite when hes free and I'll drag most of it then.

That's great your expanding your collection! But in your one year of gun ownership, aside from buying 40 guns, have you done anything to support or expand the sport? Obviously not required. But new shooters will hopefully understand that the 2A is always under attack. Support where you can, if you can, while you can.

Mars5I...congrats on your one year anniversary as a gun owner. Glad you’re on the team! You don’t know it yet but if you like to shoot those 40 guns you’re about to get bit by the RELOADING bug.

And their ain’t no vaccine for that one....and you thought buying guns was hard on your bank account.

Thats honestly something that doesn't appeal to me yet. I have been though keeping a lot of my shot brass from my range sessions just in case. Either I'll need to take up reloading or spent brass will be worth trading for

Man, 40 guns bought in a crazy year like 2020? :what:

I bought about 1/3 that number over the course of the last year... and felt kinda guilty.

Thank you, Enablers Anonymous, for showing me the light! Now I don’t feel bad at all!!

Congrats on your new hobby. As the guys said it can get addictive... but unlike other addictions like tattoos that can fade and sag, you’re going to find that you’re going to want training. You’ll then be acquiring gun handling skills that make them fun, challenging and (Lord forbid you need one this way) potentially lifesaving in times of danger.

Post some pics of your stuff and targets you’re shooting if you get time. :)

Stay safe.

JMHO- get a couple of ledger books and
make a WRITTEN record of every firearm
you have with serial numbers and detailed
descriptions. Then, get out your phone
camera or your digital and take photos of
everything with detailed descriptions and
serial numbers, and put it all on a good USB.
Keep the books in 2 different places and the
USB where you can easily get to it and
stick it in your pocket if you have an emergency and need to go

I don't think I've bought more than 40 guns since I started buying and that was in 1973 when I bought a Winchester 30-30. I've become so disabled I haven't shot anything for several years and haven't bought anything in a few years.

I wish I had kept all my spent brass from all the shooting I've done in the last 12 years. I would have mountains of the stuff. Good to have a passion in life man, I remember when I'd buy any gun that happened to be for sale through private sale. I quickly amassed some 40+ guns too, but somewhere along the line I decided I had too much random and too many calibers so like an idiot I sold quite a few here and there. Keep what you have man, it ain't gonna get easier that's for sure.

If you don't want to see cool stuff that you'll want some of, this is a bad place to hang out, but if you love guns and want to learn, this place has a ton of knowledge, but we're also a bunch of enablers. :)
