Been shooting my new Bulldog for the last few weeks trying to find the right handload that has the balance of accuracy and recoil. During this process the factory wood grips have been tearing up my hand due to sharp edges. So I went on the hunt for a set of comfortable grips. I went on the Charter Arms website and found that they had two versions of rubber grips on sale for $14.95 each plus shipping. I bought both to try. The first rubber grip in the photo is hand filling and covers the back strap, it’s an improvement over the wood. It feels OK but is hard and other than being smooth does not absorb much recoil. The last grip is soft rubber akin to a Hogue grip, does not cover the back strap. This grip was the best fit for my hand and not only the smallest of the three it was the most recoil absorbing. It also provided me with the best groups with my new Bulldog load. I settled on 6.5 Grains of Unique over a 245 grain SWC 429421. I managed comfortable, point of aim groups just over 2” at 10 yards. This is a DAO gun so I was pleased. I was able to shoot a full box with zero discomfort. So if anyone is looking for a nice compact carry grip for the Bulldog you cannot beat $14.95.

The last pair look a lot like the Hogues I have on my 3” Smith Model 13-4. I, too found them to be a great fit for my hand. :)

The Pachmayr Professional Compac grips are also good options, but I find my hand squirms about a bit and I have to readjust my grip every shot or two. (Those are on the Model 19-4 2.5”)

That gun/grip/load combo is outstanding at 2” @ 10, I think you certainly found the sweet spot for that Bulldog .44. For general carry and plinking duties I wouldn’t change a thing.

Great pics, thanks!

Stay safe.

The Pachmayr Gripper for Charter Arms is super comfortable but not good for concealment.

That was my first thought looking at the photos. It looks like the Hogues add nearly 1/2” to the overall length. That, coupled with the rubber texture, doesn’t sound like it would be good for CC.

I have the CA Undercover that I use for carry some times. I tried the CA factory “Combat Grips”, but the extra length caused many more printing problems.

untitledoiuyt.png the pachmayr compact grip was nice for me because it was still somewhat concealable. I'd have liked to try to C.A. logo old school rubber grips if I could have found some. for me I liked 5.3 gr. of Unique under a 240gr SWC.

It may be the pictures but they are the smallest of the lot. They are akin to boot grips with a pinky extension on the bottom. image.jpg

Those all wood new style Bulldog Classic grips work great on my older stainless Undercover.

I like the std rubber CA grips in your second picture the most on my older 3" Bulldog. The issue with me is the middle finger hitting the trigger guard and those keep that from happening more than the wood or the compacs for me. All hands are a bit different in what works best. One of these days I may shorten that grip up some.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably order a pair and try them out. I've been carrying my Bulldog, so I should have the best grips possible on it. :)
