Bill to Ban Assault Weapons, High-Capacity Magazines Hours After House Dems Pass Gun Control Bill

What did anyone expect?

Write your congress critters, donate to your favorite pro gun politicians and organizations, put pressure on them in the form of fear of losing their jobs if they vote for anti gun legislation. Next time around vote pro gun.

The war against the anti gunners has always ebbed and flowed, well, it's flowing boys and girls, so get your butts in gear and fight.

To who? The likes of Mitch McConnell? He's as worthless as his counterparts. I've messaged my Senator, Josh Hawley, a few times concerning different things, but there just doesn't seem to be too many like him in Congress. Eight RINOs in The House voted for HR 8 for crying out loud.

Time to get on Gab, Twitter, Facebook and the like and call these RINO’s and “Gun Friendly” dems that vote against the 2A and tell them, “we will see you at the ballot box.” And that is a threat!

There needs to be a sticky on this website and every other firearm blog that places these types of politicians names and contact information in the forefront for every red blooded American firearm owner to see.

Feinstein proposes something like this every new session. Normally it just sits idle and has to start again next session. None of the Anti-gun legislation going around is new. The problem is it now has a chance to pass. The other issue is as time goes on, the new proposals get more restrictive and better at getting very specific in ways that catch the most stuff.

Is there a way that any of you know that I can see which way my congressman voted on these bills?
In the case of a roll call vote, you can see exactly who voted for and against. Go to congress.gov, type in the bill number, and go from there. For a voice vote you won't be able to see, but you can still see the list of co-sponsors.

It may be or may not be counterproductive but one thing is fact and that is one party is against the Second Amendment and Guns and that’s the Democrats. Like it or not it is fact.
The party platform is very anti. But there are registered Democrats who own guns.

And millions of people bought their first gun last year in response to the widespread rioting, at least some of whom are also registered Democrats.

My point is, sitting here and complaining about the Democrat party does not accomplish anything. We have to let our legislators know our opinions and that our opinions influence our votes, and we have to work to persuade citizens who are currently neither especially pro nor anti, of the importance of RKBA.

Below is the link to the actual bill as proposed. It is 125 pages long. We have some reading to do. All post after this point must be directly related to the bill. If you can't be bothered to read it, then please don't post. Any post that is not directly related to the actual bill linked below will be deleted and the poster will be infracted. We don't care about your feelings or opinion of all Democrats or republicans.

Talk about how we can formulate arguments that show how stupid the bill is. Yes, we know, 2A. But we are trying to reach out to people that may not agree with our stance that the 2A is the first and last word on the matter. So chest thumping, cold dead hands, and another unhelpful machismo will not be tolerated. Y'all say we don't allow good discussion on bills before they become law. Here is your chance. Don't be the one that ruins it for everyone.

I read it this morning or at least skimmed through most of it. I hate to say it but it looks like it's tailored down enough that it has a chance of passing. There is grandfathering it looks like however transfer would be very problematic. Shooting sports and someone else's gun is allowed if owner is present would be allowed is well as hunting. They kept the list of allowed guns from 2017.

I hate to see this move through, but I don't see that many regular public folks will care. They hear scary words like "assault" and wham it needs to be banned. Many of the new gun owners I wouldn't count on helping. I know many gun owners even here in AZ, their belief system is all over the map.

I encourage everyone to read it, especially since almost 100 of the 125 pages is a list of exempted firearms so the actual parts you need to read isn’t that long.

Part of one of the bills is a provision to allow the FBI 10 days to figure out if a person is OK to receive a gun, and another 10 days to answer a challenge.

These will no doubt be business days, so the period goes from the current 3 days to a month.

What do you think the chances are, if it’s passes, that since there’s no longer a rush that they won’t use every one of those days?

We need to write everyone even the anti gun dems and reps etc. Further we need to explain how if they can restrict and regulate guns whats to stop them from restrict and regulate the 1st the 3rd the 4th and so on.

our country has just took a deep dive towards a totalitarian gov in the guise of a "unity" platform...

Well so far my approach is to counter the anti position with targeted facts and truth about these bills and being empathetic about the "problems" that such bills are trying to solve at the same time. You do have to put in the time to find facts and debate your position succinctly with a winning point. This is a lot of the time something reactionary debaters fail at miserably. Usually due to lack of solid facts due to forgetting or non fimiaraity of the finer points with the topic to begin with. Study up and win the debate folks!

the problem I have found with friends of the left is they dont care about the facts or even if you are willing to debate compromises. they want the full 9 yrds and on top of that use the "think of the children, you nazi biggot" (yes I have someone use that when debating with them about gun control.

I don't consider someone you describe above as a friend. Rather they are an acquaintance. I am too civilized to debate to a point of raising my voice and calling names to "win". I will let them fall on their sword for their cause and often ask if they might possibly wake up on the wrong side of the debate one day and to think about that.

Before we all panic, we should remember that the filibuster in the Senate is still there. It still takes 60 votes to even move a bill out of committee. Reconciliation only applies to a very narrow range of economic measures. Now, there are a number of democratic senators that are against removing the filibuster rule, with Manchin chief among them. Sinema and Tester probably aren't too hot on the idea either. They know and remember how removing the filibuster for judges backfired on them. ( Thanks Harry! )

If and when the filibuster rule is removed...THEN it will be panic time.
